Happy national fossil day everyone! :D

I just thought I would share this holiday as fossils are something that are interesting to me! Anyways, if anyone has a favorite fossil they would like to share, please let me know :)

This fossil in the picture is actually two different animals that were fossilized as they fought one another. The two animals are a Psittacosaurus, an herbivorous dinosaur, and a Repenomamus.

Thanks everyone and have a great fossil day!

Hi, ToastGod!

Fossils are maybe the most decisive evidence of Evolution, the mind-boggling process that produced the amazing variety of Life, and the sophisticated capabilities live beings have to stay alive and reproduce.

I have a trilobite fossil (a hugely common marine arthropod from about 500 million years ago), a stromatolite (rock made by layers of ancient bacteria that absorbed minerals), an ancient fish fossil I found myself in a private fossil quarry, and some fossil plants and mollusks.

I don't know mine, but the first stromatolites that have been found are from three and a half billion years ago. Almost after the beginning of Life in geological timescales. So this fossil is very meaningful and special to me. It reminds me of the beginnings and the long history of Life.

The trilobite is the most beautiful and it's like the archetypical fossil. Mine comes from Morocco where there are quarries with zillions of them.

@TheToastGod That fossil is amazing! Thanks for posting this for us. I love collecting simple ammonites, they are so fascinating.
