Can I give you a good design solution? You can use such http://noxton.com/ absolutely safe and modern luminescent paint, this will allow you to decorate the walls, the ceiling - whatever you want.

@SoFree When it comes to decorating a new home, there is no end to ideas. It all depends on what you like. I would go online and look at some images of rooms, collect photos of the ones that catch your eye, and then come up with a style that suits you.

It's the small things that will make a room. Yes, we can get all excited about picking a colour for the walls, but that is nothing if you don't put something ON those walls. An eyecatching piece of art, or something handmade. Or something completely unusual. We have a wooden wagon wheel on one of our walls ^^

@LunaHecate The wooden wagon wheel reminds me of a metal one with picture clips-we just donated to Goodwill! I bought it on a family trip a few years ago and for some reason everybody in the family hated it! LOL

Live this idea! So Id have bookcases all around our living room instead of just one- And original art by our son and photographs of our nature around us.... and a large painted canvas cloth draped like one we saw at the Smithsonian... and carpet plush white... and better sound system.... get rid of clunky cd machine... and a linen couch. 😊👏🏻

what’s your aesthetic? Maybe you can go by your aesthetic.

Whatever you do, please don't decorate your room in 70's style... The 1970's & early 80's were the nadir of American interior & furniture design.
