Boxing for confidence

AWordyHopeFiend February 8th

Hey everyone

I am a boxer from the states. I use boxing as an avenue for self improvement and discipline. I've noticed in my career that most of my gym mates are really conscientious to the crowd watching. I do t know why I'm different though I've never (not one time) been worried about the crowd and who is watching. Even the coaches frequently warn of not being interested in the crowd. I've fought in big big venues as well as very small venues. I enjoy honing my craft and being part of the gym. Everyone knows of me and greets me though most of the time they are people I do not know. People will gravitate toward me in my community and speak to me by name though I do not believe I have ever seen them. Boxing has been a big outlet to me and it gives me something to work hard for and for that I am grateful.

To those reading: boxing can be an outlet for you. A way to lose weight and build confidence. Fighting in competitions is not required to learn and box to be fit.

@AWordyHopeFiend  I love that you don't worry about the crowd that is a really useful thing, and I also am so pleased that you say that boxing can be an outlet without having to comp fight. Good luck in your fights!

Not on your level but I will say that my son wanted to learn and so I made him a punching bag out of a pillowcase stuffed with old clothes and tied from the ceiling in the barn. He said that practicing made him relax and lose his anger and frustration about school. So a very worthwhile hobby.

Taking the time to Do that For your son Shows that you're understanding and compassionate. I've never used it as an outlet for anger because it clouds ones judgement/mind, makes you hasty and sloppy. It's about the confidence in one's on ability after time.. sending him to a gym to train after school would help a lot. Good coaches will not teach you to fight off anger. I learned that I really can learn and become something if I give my heart and my kind drives me to make the connections to the camaraderie, the being stumped and being educated on several different angles and thought processes, being given the styles and avenues my personal style would take and given the RIGHT to choose and not being told its Incorrect/ not good enough.. I was able to pursue what I wanted without pressure nor met with reluctance.

If I could handle head & body shots & stick with a fitness regimen, I wouldn't mind joining a gym & training for it. (Chronic conditions don't allow it...those, & the fact that I'm getting old) TBH Muay Thai is more my speed, but boxing itself is a fine athletic discipline...a true martial art, when performed skillfully enough. Working boxers are some of the most physically fit specimens around. I wouldn't advise anyone to fight in the ring for too long, though...whether amateur or pro, you can only take so many punches before cumulative brain damage starts.
