Medium gamer girl
Maybe this is a stupid expression but I always felt like a medium gamer.
I feel uncomfortable calling myself a gamer girl because I always feel like those are hardcore gamers and Im not a hardcore gamer.
I mean, I like to play videogames but Im not always playing, sometimes Im months without playing. So I dont know loads of games, and Im not that good of a player and Im usually always late xD Usually by the time I get around to playing a game, all the hype has already passed xD
But I play more than angry birds on my phone so I still see mysef as a small gamer girl.
Does anyone know what I mean? Or not really? xD
@RedAsphodel90 I see exactly what you mean. I think it's perfectly okay to be in the best 60% (maybe 50%) of the gamer population and still consider oneself a good gamer. Professional gamers are exactly that: they game for a living. They focus their energy, time, efforts in gaming. Think of them like high competition athletes. Most people can never reach their level because they go to school, have jobs, have families, have other activities they prefer.
How do you feel about where you are, in the gaming community? Do you have fun while gaming, even if you're not in the best 10%?
What makes you enjoy gaming?
And yes, it's always frustrating to game with a pro and lose miserably, haha!
@AiluraBlaze I think I started being a hit more self conscious about how much I game after meeting my boyfriend, because he plays codeogames every single day for hours and is really good at it ๐ Also he like to play competitive, like in the highest difficulty.
I on the other hand, sometimes I play only when Im bored and I like to play in the easy mode ๐
But when I play, I do enjoy playing (if no one is watching me lol). If Im in the mood for it, it makes me feel kinda good when I (eventually) win something haha
@RedAsphodel90 I'm like you, not very competitive, and I have fun gaming even if I lose. A challenge is good every now and then, for the extra fun, though!
@RedAsphodel90
I'll be honest I think the expression "girl gamer" is stupid, but let me explain why.
So I'm also a woman that plays games (yey!) but I think 1) gamer should be used for people who are kinda addicted (like you mentioned), 2) I think is dumb adressing a gender here.
Many people argue "oh the gaming industry is rulled by men so we use this expression". Well I think lately many more women play games and they aren't better or worst than guys :)
In the end of the day gender is irrelevant. We're all humans liking to kick ass in games!
I also think labeling yourself isn't really needed. But if you really want one what about the word geek? Usually geeks (urban dictionary definition) are people who love to be around games, computers, comic books, all type of nerdy stuff. Is what I personally call myself.
@Booklover95 You're right, it's important to understand that gender roles are irrelevant in gaming. I like calling everyone a "gamer", regardless of gender.
@Booklover95
I used to think the gaming world had mainly guys too, but recently I'm realizing that there are indeed a lot more girls that I thought :o
I don't usually call myself a gamer girl, only in specific situations where I feel the need to make it clear I'm a girl (usually it's when I want to talk to other girls and want them to knwo I'm not some pervy guy xD).
But I agree with two, gender should be irrelevant anyway. In most things actually. The world would probably be a lot simpler if people stopped making such a gap between man vs woman in so many things.
@RedAsphodel90
couldn't agree more :)
You put it into words perfectly!
PC gamer here. I don't have any console but I am perfectly happy. I don't call myself "hardcore". I game when I want to, when I feel like it. Mostly some roleplaying game like Skyrim for example, WoW, ESO etc. MMO's are nice. I can also sometimes go weeks without gaming, you lose the feeling sometimes like "neh, don't feel like it."
Yup. Or movies, if it's not some tv-series. Though I have always loved open world video games for one good reason. They give you the opportunity to explore and live a life of adventure. One you can't really have in real life. I mean sure, I would love to just poof, take a plane trip to...I don't know Mount Everest and climb to the top. But it's not like I can just suddenly do that tomorrow. So video games at least let us sate our desire for adventure and exploration. At least's thats how it is for me. :3 ^^
As for what was mentioned above, gender when it comes to gaming. It is often believed that there are more guys gaming. Maybe it was more guys gaming I don't know 20-30 years ago on playstation. But nowadays it is very even between the number of women and men gaming.
@VDarkAge I agree qith your view on RPG and fantasy in other media. It's all about experiencing something different or completely unreal.
About gender in gaming, I've had my butt kicked by women more than once, in gaming. Women are becoming just as good as men with a shorter gaming history, and often with more to do.
@AiluraBlaze
Exactly. You can hardly fly around on a dragon in real life (Skyrim :P) but at least you can do it in a video game.
I am not much for PvP, I prefer PVE games, or at least a PVE style. But my first game ever was Need for Speed when I was like 7.
@VDarkAge PvE is great when you don't have other people to play with or when you just don' enjoy the PvP environment!
@AiluraBlaze
Honestly I'm no fan of PvP. xD I am a bad loser hehehe. :3 But, I make some exceptions. ESO, the hole alliance war system is great so I have spent a lot of time there. And some occasional PvP in WoW, battlegrounds. But that's it, I don't have any just PvP games.
@VDarkAge Oh yes, one of the things I love the most is when videogames have amazing and beautiful worlds. I think it's awesome that videogames give you the opportuity to explore fantastic worlds that otherwise you wouldn't be able (because they don't exist haha). That's why I always tend to choose more fantasy like games, and never go for things like CoD and such :)
@RedAsphodel90
Yup, you said it. Especially games that take you to other worlds, like magical worlds or to outer space. Man they are cool! Like the Mass Effect trilogy or just these games with epic worlds. I can just stop what I'm doing and look around like "....this place is sooooooo cool!" Hehe. :P
Gamer here too :D Not daily, but that is properly mostly due to the inconvenient fact of having only 24 hours in a day.
I don't play competitively, I like either the full immersion of an epic story (think Mass Effect Trilogy, or my current game of choice, Witcher 3), or a decent "couch co-op". I DO have a soft spot for resident evil too. Although I confess to not having finished 7 as yet as it's scary (no WAY am i touching PSVR for this one!).
I love the escape gaming brings. More immersive and not as passive as a movie. Saying that, anyone else excited that Netflix are making a Witcher series? Who would you cast!
@LunaHecate It's so nice to meet another gamer
As soon as you mentioned Witcher 3 my mind went boom! netflix series! I'm so excited for it! Me and my bf were actually talking about it just the other day about casting choices. The only name we could think of was Jason Mamoa as Geralt What do you think? Altough I'm having a hard time picturing him with white hair, I think he could pull off both the badass intimidating side of Geralt and the funny side too.
@RedAsphodel90 If you put Jason Momoa in it I'll have to wipe the drool off my tv :D
I'm not convinced he'd make a good Geralt, though. Maybe yer man that plays Jaime Lannister?
@RedAsphodel90 You don't have to be a gamergirl, you can just be a gamer.. Men don't own the monopoly on gaming. Play every day, play every few weeks, play twice a year, doesn't matter. Do you game? Do you love it? Do you have fun? Congrats you're a gamer! :D
I get it! I'm like this too. A casual gamer I suppose
