Hobby Zone "Book-Out" Challenge in Honor of Book Lover's Day and Lazy Day!
Happy Book Lover’s Day!
Today we celebrate our love of books and reading! Although, who doesn’t celebrate that every day?!
[Image: Wall of bookcases with the text “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books. And that’s kind of the same thing”]
There are so many things to love about books. By reading books for just 30 minutes a day we are able to gain valuable knowledge, exercise our brains, improve focus and memory, have fun, increase our ability to empathize and communicate, reduce stress levels, improve our mental health, and maybe even live longer!
Sometimes finding our love of books simply requires finding the genre or genres that spark our interest. Sometimes we just need to make the time and find a comfortable space to retreat into the pages of a story. Whatever it is, perhaps a book lover resides in you?
[Image: Person with a flashlight laying inside a propped open giant book reading at night]
Did you know? Tonight is also the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower so when the sun sets you can put down your book, lay back and look to the sky. But don’t worry, tomorrow is Lazy Day, so what better way to carry on the celebration than to spend your Lazy Day sleeping in and reading books?! Join us for a book-out, that's right, put down the tech, take some time to be lazy, if you want, lay on the beach, or just lay on your bed and read away the day!
[image of a pile of books with a mug that reads “Sorry I’m booked”]
Join our “book-out” challenge if you are able and take a day this next week to escape into the pages of a good book. Either way, I want to hear about your love of books, so maybe consider the following questions:
Do you love the feel of a paperback, are you a hardcover snob, or maybe you like ebooks? Do you have a preference or are you just happy so long as you have something to read?
What section of the library or bookstore are we most likely to find you browsing? Non-fiction? Mystery? Sci-fi? Maybe some books about your other hobbies?
Book series? Love them or leave them? And do you read them all at once?
For our LGBTQ+ readers, and allies too, you may want to check this post out as well!

I don't usually do ebooks, and I prefer paperback books to hardcover

Fiction Mystery/fantasy books are my favorite! But I'm often looking for more cookbooks

Book series? Love them or leave them? And do you read them all at once?
Love them! And I read them all at once :)
@obscurerain
Paperbacks can be easier to read for sure!
Do you find you prefer paperback when it comes to cookbooks as well? Most of my cookbooks are hardcover too. Do you have a favourite type of cookbook?
So mystery and fantasy series to devour as soon as possible are your favourite recipe? ;) Read any good series lately that you think others would enjoy?
Hope you find time to "book-out" and enjoy another great book!

I love the feel and smell of an old book in my hands the most, but I'm willing to take what I can get and be happy about it.

If I'm into it I can't stop till I've binge-read all of them ...
@braveShade8118
I understand being willing to take what is available and enjoy reading it regardless of the format, but there is something about the feel of an old book that seems to carry with it more than just the story written in it's pages.
Sounds like we'll find you all over enjoying a variety of interests!
Binge reading a new series (or an old favourite) is one of my favourite things to do!
I hope you'll find time to "book-out" and maybe a new series to binge read! 😊

I like any type of material for reading, whether it is hardcover, paperback, or e-books. I have a kindle e-reader that I like to use, and I will also be starting to read on a tablet. In terms of preference, I am not sure if I have one, but lately I have been more geared towards e-books, as it more convenient.
What section of the library or bookstore are we most likely to find you browsing? Non-fiction? Mystery? Sci-fi? Maybe some books about your other hobbies?
I like teen, young adult and adult fiction, as well as young adult and adult non-fiction. I like to read about LGBTQ topics as well as topics related to young adults.
Book series? Love them or leave them? And do you read them all at once?
If I am to read a book series, I am to read them all at once. I am not a reader who can go back and forth in-between book series or else I will start to forget the material.
@TypingQueer
Convenience seems to be a big factor when it comes to ebooks! I do find reading on my tablet is a bit different than reading on a dedicated e-reader with a more paper like display, I find the dedicated e-reader feels more like an actual book, has fewer distractions, and doesn't need charging anywhere near as often as my tablet.
Sounds like you enjoy a bit of everything as well! Though there can certainly be topics that are more near and dear to us even within a larger genre! Do you have a favourite book or series?
I also like continuity when I'm reading rather than jumping back and forth between different books and series as well. I don't find it's that I forget just, I like to fully dive into one world at a time and give it my focus. Either way another vote for all at once. 😊
I hope you will find a bit of time to curl up with a good book and "book-out!"
I think you are right in that sense, I never looked at an e-reader like that. I do think that there are more distractions when it comes to using devices such as cell phones or tablets to read books, even though it is harder to read books on cell phones due to the smaller screens LOL.
My favourite book would be “What You Left Behind” by Jessica Verdi. It is one of my most favourite all time books.

Book series? Love them or leave them? Love them! 👍
And do you read them all at once?Sometimes
@Helpingheart23
Being happy with whatever is available can certainly improve our options!
Definitely sounds like you have a wide variety of interests, do you find you have to be in a certain mood for each type of book?
I don't know how anyone manages to not read a series all in one go because I get so drawn in and hooked! If I ever disappear for a few weeks, I'm probably just reading! 🤣 Sounds like you are better able to balance the desire to keep reading with the other demands of life.
So, do you read books from different genre's simultaneously or try to stick to one book at a time?
Thanks for taking the time to share! I hope you will find time to "book out" soon!
@EmotionsListener
Being happy with whatever is available can certainly improve our options! Yes 😉👌
Do you find you have to be in a certain mood for each type of book? Yes, it has happened that I read a book halfway through and then moved on to another book when my mood changed, and later returned to the first book 😄
I don't know how anyone manages to not read a series all in one go because I get so drawn in and hooked! If I ever disappear for a few weeks, I'm probably just reading! 🤣 Sounds like you are better able to balance the desire to keep reading with the other demands of life. I do read a series in one go, but not always. I prefer to do it during vacations when I can spend more time reading. I also like to involve others by reading together.
So, do you read books from different genre's simultaneously or try to stick to one book at a time? I don't stick to one book at a time, although I always have in the past.

Hi! (*^▽^*)
📖 I prefer physical books. Either paperback or hardcover are fine.
📖 You can find me in either Fiction, Humor, Mystery or Poetry.
📖 The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden is a series I would swear by. And yes, I read and reread them all at once in order!
Tagging some friends I haven’t crossed paths with in a while to invite them to join in on the fun! @ContainedChaos @lumieremilkyway @Munkeh

Hello!
There is certainly something different about holding a physical book in your hands, I even find I'm less likely to fall asleep while reading if I'm holding an actual book.
So now all we need is to get some humorous poetry about a fictional mystery? 😁 But all fun areas to explore for sure!
Sounds like I have another trilogy to add to my reading list! I agree with reading them all at once in order!
Thank you for stopping by and joining in the fun... now back to reading? 📚
