Frustration at not Being Able to Sleep Keeps me up!

Batman94 June 20th, 2015

Hello everybody. Has anybody experienced this as well? I start trying to sleep, but then get frustrated at myself for not being able to get to sleep. This frustration then wakes me up.

Is there anything that you all have found that helps this?

Every night. Listening to really soft music helps me! Also I drink camomile tea before bed:')

Well, it sounds like something that might be worth trying. I know tea can have some caffeine in it though, so I have been hesitant. Perhaps in small amounts it would be no big deal.

@Batman94 - some tea does have caffeine, but herbal teas do not, so as long as you stick to those, you should be alright!

Drink warm milk! There's an enzyme in milk that is formed whn heating it up. http://blogs.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/2008/01/warm-milk-true-or-false.html I like to drink my milk has hot chocolate. Then I snuggle up and say goodnight :)

I suppose that could be a good distraction, if nothing else. There is probably no negative to that.

With all the technolgy in the world, the bright screens deprive usof melanomin, a chemical in our brain that helps us sleep. You can easily get melanomin tablets from a supermarket or chemist to naturally help you sleep betterheartheart

Another interesting idea. I might give it a shot sometime.

Insomnia is an old friend - one I'd be happy to part with. Warm cinnamon milk (the recipe is easily available online) and music streamed through 8tracks an hour before bed. Reading the old fashioned way ie via a good old paperback. No bright screens and, by extension, no Internet before bed.

Have you tried listening to natural sounds? You can go on YouTube or downloads apps which play rain on a window, wind, water, and you can play them for hours so you won't wake.

Also, when I can't sleep, I take a hot shower, moisturise, take care of myself etc, get into clean pjsand light a candle.

Here are some things that I have to do in order to get a good night's sleep.

1. Turn down all the lights in the house 1 hour prior to bed

2. No electronics 1 hour before bed

3. Make the room as cool as possible

4. Make the bed before I get in it (yeah, I never make the bed when I get up).

5. Turn off all the lights... All of them.

6. A white noise maker can help if you dont like nature sounds.

7. Make all the pets leave the bedroom.

8. No caffeine 3 hours prior to bed

9. Beds are for sleeping. If you aren't tired dont get in one. No laptops and surfing the internet in bed.

10. Diaphrammatic breathing

I have been trying the "only sleep in bed" rule myself recently. I'll see if it works.

I use lavender essential oils with a diffuser to help prepare me for sleep.
