7 Signs You’re Not Drinking Enough Water In Addition To Other Ways To Be Healthy

Dry mouth and a feeling of thirst

A very typical sign of dehydration is—obviously—experiencing the feeling of thirst. This, along with a dry mouth, is often the first sign that you need water. And, for good reason: Not only does a dry mouth signify a lack of fluids, but also that your immune system is becoming weakened. “A dry mouth can lead to the oral mucosa, an immune defense, being weakened and you can become more prone to infections,” explains Ahlemann. “If you can’t manage to drink water when you have a dry mouth, then you should at least rinse it out with a little liquid.”

Dark urine or less urine production

“When we drink too little, our urine becomes concentrated and changes color,” explains Ahlemann. According to the doctor, pale yellow urine is ideal. “If your urine is dark, that’s a clear sign that you should definitely drink more. Looking at your own urine is the easiest self-test to check whether you’ve drunk enough water.”

Headaches and dizziness

“Headache and dizziness can be caused by reduced blood volume due to dehydration, which means that our brain is no longer well supplied with blood and nutrients,” says Ahlemann, who adds that if you often feel dizzy, you should definitely visit a doctor.

Fatigue and problems concentrating

Fatigue and difficulty concentrating can also be due to a lack of fluids and are one of the most common signs you’re not drinking enough water. “Here, too, the reduced blood volume is to blame, which, as mentioned, means that our brain is not optimally supplied,” explains the doctor.

Dry skin and lips

According to Ahlemann, typical signs of dehydration include dry skin and lips. You can find out whether this is the case for you with a small self-test: “Pinch the skin on the back of your hand between two fingers and pull it up. If it seems slow to return to its original state, that is a sign of dehydration.” In addition, many people experience increased itching due to dry skin. “The skin may also appear paler because the oxygen and micronutrient supply is no longer optimal,” she adds.

Dark circles under the eyes

According to Ahlemann, “if you don’t drink enough, the blood becomes thicker, which tends to make the vessels more visible. Sunken eyes, dark circles, and increased eye wrinkles can be a sign that you’re not drinking enough.”

Constipation

A typical sign that you are not drinking enough? Constipation. It’s easy to understand why this happens: If you drink too little, your intestines withdraw too much water from the stool, which in turn reduces their volume. When the intestinal tract is not full, the body doesn’t feel compelled to eliminate waste. “In medicine, we speak of constipation when we talk about solid stools due to water deprivation,” explains Ahleman. “But what many people don’t know is that drinking too little can also cause a bloated stomach.”

The article I posted the link to above doesn’t state this but if you really wanna be healthy, drink water with electrolytes and salt. But don’t overdo it. I’d say try drinking water with electrolytes and salt at least once a day, morning would be my recommendation. You can get electrolytes powder online. 

However just drinking water isn’t enough. Here’s other ways to stay healthy in addition to drinking water:

Getting enough sleep every night, enough sunlight and fresh air every day, walking/jogging/running along with other forms of exercise whether it’s at the gym or at home or both, eating the right foods (not fast food which isn’t real food) that have vitamins and nutrients and will fill you up, not sitting down or lying down right after eating as that can cause heart problems especially when you’re older as you have to let the food you consumed digest so wait at least 1-4 hours which I know isn’t possible during work hours, drinking fruit shakes/smoothies which can be consumed twice a day, once during the day and again at night, are a great way to consume fruit if you don’t wanna/can’t eat them. I recommend making them at home so you know what’s used to make it as opposed to buying it from places that have them because they put too much sugar in them, being happy, hopeful, positive, etc as much as you can. Friends and other forms of relationships are good if they’re healthy and real. Self care and love is healthy as well so prioritize yourself and don’t put yourself down anytime.

⭐️This information is a misconception. As the “average healthy” person doesn’t need to take in Electrolytes on a “daily” basis. Nor should we suggest or recommend to do so unless we are healthcare providers. 

While these can be helpful during instances of “Illness”, or “After INTENSE exercise”, where the body might be depleting, it’s not typically needed…. And definitely not needed to be healthy. 

Also consuming too much sugar & salt from electrolyte drinks can possibly lead to weight gain & blood pressure concerns. 

Average healthy people can replenish electrolytes through Plain water (adequate hydration), and proper fueling of nutritious foods. 

Coconut water is a great choice!

Yes exactly which is why I said not to overdo it LOL. My doctor informed me to do this but stated it didn’t need to be done daily. Just every other day or two days. I spoke with her about the sugar factor and she said this sugar is ok like the sugar in fruits that are healthy. 

Whether you exercise or not electrolytes can help boost your energy levels in addition to other benefits especially if you don’t get enough sleep every night and/or don’t eat healthy foods that have essential nutrients and vitamins. 

Coconut water would work too for being healthy so that was a great suggestion from you. Thanks for that ;)

I guess in the Grand scheme of things it can also be a personal choice. 

I know people who drink Gatorade like they can’t get enough… Although (Powerade) is a healthier choice between those two. 

Coconut water is just a great natural replenishment without all the other additives!
