9 Ways to Squeeze in More Steps Every Day
"1. Recruit a workout buddy or join a walking club
Walking with a group offers accountability and can make exercising more fun; there are also a variety of mental-health benefits, including reduced loneliness.
2. Stop texting people who are nearby
Instead, get up, walk, and communicate with them face-to-face.” Replace every text, email, or call to the nearby target of your attention with an in-person visit, and your daily step count will soar.
3. Walk in place during TV shows
When you’re watching non-streaming TV, stand up every time there’s a commercial break and march in place until the show resumes
4. Get (or borrow) a dog
It’s one thing to skip a walk and disappoint yourself; it’s another to let down a set of puppy-dog eyes. You’re helping yourself as much as you’re helping a little animal, and they deserve to walk as much as we do.
5. Try a fitness tracker
Research suggests that fitness trackers are motivating: One study, published in 2022, found that people who used a pedometer walked nearly 400 steps per day more than those without one.
6. Create some competition
Create a competition with your friends, family members, or colleagues. Try to accrue a certain number of steps per month or per week, and maybe have a couple prizes intermittently.
7. Have mobile meetings
Notify meeting attendees in advance so they can dress accordingly, and choose a flat path—ideally in a quiet area like a park.
8. If it’s cold outside, design an indoor circuit
There are lots of other great ways to take advantage of indoor movement. Running in place (or on a treadmill), shadow boxing, and dancing. They’re fun, and sure to get your heart rate up and help you hit your step goals without leaving the house.
9. Always be prepared
To cultivate a no-excuses lifestyle, always keeping your sneakers with you. Heading out on errands? Commuting to and from work? Pack your walking shoes, so if the opportunity arises, you can pop out of your car and sneak in a quick walk. Keep them where you see them."

Thank you for these tips! I have been looking for ways to get in more steps everyday as I feel I do not walk nearly enough. I really love the suggestion to stop texting people who are nearly, it’s something I find myself often doing.

Thank you for sharing this post. Very insightful and informative.
I typically do walk everyday, however, because I've been doing different activities lately, (AND The Winter weather/temps), I don't get the amount of walk days in that I would typically like to.
But, with the warmer weather, longer days, and Spring-time approaching, I will start to incorporate more walks for longer time periods like I used to.
But... the good thing is, weather I'm actually walking or doing another activity, I DO make sure to get in the required Daily Step goal in each day, (and typically shoot for more, as I have my own step goal to reach).
