placidGrapes8613 March 30th, 2018

Iam not gaining weight but Iam not loosing weight either. My diet is really clean. I am suffering monumental amounts of stress. Its so bad I became deppressed. I havent lost any weight in three months . I want to do more intense exercises but Iam struggling with lethargy. Even if I do intense workouts I do not loose weight, any advice ?? My period is also really late every month.. the stress is really messing with me and I can not address it right now .

Hi there Grapes... Thank you for your question. As a Nurse... My first thought would be to ask you if you have touched base and seen an actual physician to "rule-out" any physical or hormonal issues or concerns. (Examples could be things like "Thyroid issues" etc..).... and also not sure if you are currenlty taking any types of medications? (Some medications could interfere with weight loss as well)..... You would let your physician know the same things that you have shared here, so they can do a complete physical and blood work-up on you to rule out these things or anything else.

Also, if you are "stressed" our bodies can hold on to excessive stress, or continued stress, and in most instances it will Not respond well to losing weight. Hormones such as "Cortisol" get released, and our bodies can hold on to weight because of it.

Another thing to address is that you say you are doing "Intense" Workouts. So my question then would be , "How intense are they" and are you "fueling" your body properly for these intense workouts? How many calories are you burning? You want to be sure that you are actually "eating" enough to fuel these workouts. It could be that your body is burning "too many" calories and not getting enough food. Causing it to think that its "starving" and go into a sort of "starvation mode" causing it to hold on to weight.....So that should be addressed as well. You can always use a free app or go online and use MYFITNESSPAL to help you with that by entering your calories vs. your exercises and it can help you to monitor that better.

Also, next would be your "diet"... What types of foods are you eating? Are you eating clean, are you eating enough, are you getting in the requirements of good foods? Cutting back on sugars, sodas, juices, junk foods, etc..etc...

But the biggest thing , is that if you are having major stress, it will attack your body in ways that you wouldn't even imagine. The best thing to do is to try to eliminate those stressors from your life or your day. Take time to relax and use 'Self Care" when needed.. If your body is tired, don't over-do ,or push it to the maximum. Give it rest if that is what it needs. But as stated above, seeking medical advice from a profssional to rule out other things as well (especially if your period is an issue) because stress can also wreak havoc on the menstrual cycle too!... But its VERY IMPORTANT to get whatever Stress you are dealing with or feeling under contol... as this will not help with your Physical (or emotional/mental health). And can hinder your weight-loss efforts...

Best wishes on everything and if you need to talk or chat, you can feel free to message me as well, or also anyone here in the Healthy Living Subcommunity.

Hi !

Just wanted to share what made sense to me.Hope it would help u in some way too.

As I see it, weight gain has an undercurrent of trauma that needs to be dealt with. So no ammt of diets or exercise alone can help you .... unless you accept your fat as your frnd nd not enemy. Think of a scar wound on your body. It might look extremely ugly.. but in essence it is only trying to serve the purpose of preventing blood loss. In the same way.. I have come to see fatty tissue as some sort of buffer to allow you time and space to heal emotional wounds. If the root cause of emotional trauma is understood .. everything that is seemingly out of place will start functioning in their right places once more.
