Tip for group moderators fighting the recent spam attacks (Must read)
Yo. Y'all beautiful.
Alright, now that we covered that we can focus on business. We are starting to have a huge spam issue where someone comes into the chat rooms and spam 10 messages a second. This makes it hard for moderators to hit the "Mute" button because the chat is moving so fast. It's been happening so much lately, I would assume you all have seen this.
To defeat this issue, you can "zoom out." By pressing "CTRL" and the minus symbol "-" you can "Zoom out" of your page. (Also, you can press "+" to zoom back in.) This makes the text smaller, but when the spam happens you can easily hit the mute button. It works every time. I permanently zoom out so when the spam attack happens, I can mute them within 5 seconds.
Just spreading the tactic. Thanks for reading.
Also, under the "Chatroom rules" is a thick grey bar. You can click and drag that downward to expand the chat length as well. This method, in conjunction with my first post, makes it easier to see more messages and enables easier moderating.
I would imagine it's hard to ban these people because they simply can use a proxy to continue coming here.
Yup - had a few in the teen support... just gotta fight em as they come... together though, we can defeat them...
Aye, I always admire your passion.
To be honest, I really wanted the post to be in caps with some dramatic music playing behind it...
I haven't seen any of the spamming but thank, it's a great tip if I come across someone doing this :)
Always better to be prepared in advance :)
Oh lovely! I've been wishing that I could expand the chat and make the text smaller so I could read more at once and didn't know it was really an option here. So thanks!
Okay. I've seen the spamming now. lol
Yeah, they've been lively tonight, eh?
Yep. I even got an offline message from one after muting their guest account in Depression Support. Lovely.
Yep - I've even had some PM me asking me what they've done, before just hurling abuse and usually threatening me - always take great pleasure when I tell them they're about to be banned...
(Except for stupid proxies...)
Then again, you can also get what I had last night. The guests/members who send you a message about being a great moderator who is really kind and supportive. They're the anti-troll :)
Thanks for the tip EJ. Will have to keep that in mind for the next time
