When the World is Sick Can't No One Be Well, But I Dreamt That We Were All Beautiful and Strong
I came across these words during a mental health conference that had a presentation titled "When the World is Sick Can't No One Be Well, But I Dreamt That We Were All Beautiful and Strong" which is taken from lyrics written by Silver Mt. Zion
I find the quote to be inspiring, creative, but also sad at the same time. I'm still processing it and am curious about what others perspectives are on it as hearing other's viewpoints helps me to analyze, feel, and incorporate it. I feel like these words have a powerful message and would like to better understand it so any thoughts are appreciated.
What is your take on it? ✨
@Espejo There are people out there moaning that the uptick in mental illnesses is because the newer generations are weak and yeah, you see people getting diagnosed left and right, you see people crumbling. It's become common. But, if so many people are all suffering so much it must mean that there is something structurally wrong with society- it's not just biology and it's not just individuals. People are feeling isolated in this age, feeling threatened, feeling financally anxious- and anxious about the future of this planet too. It's like we're not quite built for this modern world. The uptick in mental illnesses is a symptom of a sick world. No one, even the ones who scoff at mental illnesses, are quite alright. But, maybe there's still hope in each of us- a beauty and a strength in an age of outrage and isolation. Maybe we can make this sick world better, maybe we can pull through.
@determinedSea4370 as said for someone who I can't remmember now... "you can't be healthy in a sick place". 🤷🏻♂️

Thank you both for sharing your thoughts. Your comments make sense. I remember working in a toxic workplace and thinking that the people who were held up as the star employees were the least healthiest.
Something about the quote still has me in a trance. I guess it is because I'm an idealist and would like to believe that an ideal world is possible. I wonder what it would take for us to raise beautiful and strong children and to help older people who are seen as "broken, ill, weak or ugly" into their best idealized versions of themselves...
