Thank you so much. I have been only reading and watching about their species since the day I got them. The avian vet is not very accessible here, so I have to rely mostly online. I am spending lots of time with them and observing them. I just wish they live long and healthy.

Tips:

1. Regardless of how cute they are, and they love to snuggle, NEVER and I mean EVER sleep or nap with your bird(s). Accidents have happened, where a person rolls over in their sleep and crush their bird or block their airways. Just don't.

2. Always pay very close attention to diet. Diet has a lot of impact for a bird, so making sure you're giving them a healthy diet and not just pellets is key. Most vets will tell you that pellets should be around 80% of their diet, such as Lefeber - but, note that vegetables are also important.

3. When someone has a new child, they "child-proof" their home - well, you'll need to "bird-proof" your home to the best of your ability. Items that knock over easy can harm a bird.

4. Either mist or wash your birds regularly, as in at least once a week. They get feather dander and appreciate it very much when you help them with pinfeathers - just watch for blood feathers (they will let you know which is which)

5. Attention is crucial. It's good to show them cartoons or play music they like.

6. Birds require a dark, quiet, and covered cage at night - and most birds (at least mine, need around 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. A lack of sleep can cause behavioral issues in birds.

7. Give them things to do, challenges, and avoid nesting materials as much as possible. Wood blocks, plastic chew toys that are safe for animals.

8. Bird is a commitment beyond getting a dog or a cat. Most birds, if well taken care of, live a long time. You may need to put them in your will, because they can outlive you.

9. I trust BirdTricks - they have many videos about the above, but also tips and tricks you can use, recipe books, toys, etc. - I don't get a commission, but I've found them to be very helpful and free with information to help people with the reality of working with birds.

Enjoy your bird(s).

@Sventek

Thank you. Can't thank you enough for these detailed tips. It's helpful and I always look for better ways to care for my birdies.

I am always figuring out their diets. They are used to milets and due to the weather here, it's advised not to give them soft food or veggies more than twice a week.

I have not tamed them yet and am still bird-proofing the room. I have already come across the mentioned youtube channel and indeed I like it. I am so happy to receive your advice. And hoping for more in the future 💚😁
