Everyone Needs Someone Who Understands

I was scrolling through my social media tonight when I came across a man reading a story from a children’s book. It was so powerful and made me very emotional. I thought I would share it here.

Puppies for Sale

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read “Puppies For Sale.” Signs like that have a way of attracting small children, and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner’s sign.

“How much are you going to sell the puppies for?” he asked.

The store owner replied, “Anywhere from $30 to $50.”

The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. “I have $2.37,” he said. “Can I please look at them?”

The store owner smiled and whistled and out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his store followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, “What’s wrong with that little dog?”

The store owner explained that the veterinarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn’t have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame. The little boy became excited. ‘That is the little puppy that I want to buy.”

The store owner said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.”

The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner’s eyes, pointing his finger, and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I’ll pay full price. In fact, I’ll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for.”

The store owner countered, “You really don’t want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies.”

To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied, “Well, I don’t run so well myself, and the little

puppy will need someone who understands!”

I love the moral behind this story. No matter what you’ve been through, no matter how many scars you have, no matter what it’s been like or what you’ve done, somebody understands and somebody needs you to understand them. Don’t ever let anybody tell you that you’re not worth full price💕💖

Honestly, this makes me sad too.

I don't know if I'll ever find someone like that, who understands me, and endures being with me.

A lot of people fake the whole "I don't want you to be perfect, I accept you the way you are" thing.

Both my exes proved that point, the first one intentionally tortured me mentally, then left.

The second one drained me completely, verbally abused me, then they cheated with the excuse of me "Not being enough" even though I kept pouring for them, when I had an empty cup myself.

And they both told me that they accepted me, with my flaws.

Could you imagine? I knew that the second one was a narcissistic, with deep deep issues that are unbearable, but I kept going for them, and tried to help them.

I became friends with both male, and female friends, who both told me that they will help me.

And when I became vulnerable to them with my emotions, they clearly showed coldness to me.

Some avoided, some insulted me, some left, some made pathetic excuses just to not get near me.

I never insulted anyone, nor hurted anyone physically.

But I guess I'm easily replaceable, like a cheap doll.

Understanding someone, and enduring them, is not a common thing human beings have.

We all choose our comfort option, it's to be with someone already perfect, already rich, already handsome, and strong, well known.

People's true nature come out when things are overwhelming, words and promises are just letters on a paper.

Thank you for sharing that story, it's nice.

Although, unrealistic to the real world.

What you've explained is the real world. What she has posted is limited to books and tales.

Hi Stranger! 😊 ❤️

I loved hearing your thoughts. I agree that the world isn't always quite as delightful as the story that our OP posted. Every day might not exactly work out that way.

For me, the take away was the moral of the story. That we are all worthy of love and kindness. That we all matter even if we may come across some that don't think we do. These are thoughts that we can hold close to our hearts.❤️

For real world application and not just the stuff that is "limited to books and tales" one could consider the way those around us treat us. If others treat us in a way that is demeaning, devaluing, telling us that we are not "worth full price" then perhaps we are around the wrong person. It could be time to move along and distance ourselves from people like that.

For more real world application "Be the change you wish to see in the world" -Gandhi (loosely quoted). If one has always been treated like that puppy it could be time to be just like that boy as we know first hand how bad that feels. It's what our founder, Glen, refers to as the wounded healer. Who knows best how to support, help and show empathy towards others than the most wounded of us all? We all have value. We all have something of worth to share with others. I underestimate the power or greatness of no one!

Interestingly enough, for me this story highly resonates (again, real world application) as my behavior wasn't limited to "stories or tales". A few similarities as I saw an add for puppies for sale in a local newspaper. When speaking to the breeder he was quite proud of the liter produced. He spoke negatively of one of them. It seemed as if he despised that puppy. He thought it to be worthless and a bit angry of what and who she was.

The more he said about that unwanted puppy, the more I listened. No one would want them. SOLD! ha hahah hahah 😊 He gave me that dog for almost nothing and just glad to get rid of "it".

Proof is in the pudding that one "mans" trash is another "mans' treasure as my sweet "princess fur pants" had 15 wonderful years with me! He couldn't understand my comments of..."I don't care if she would have 3 legs and 1 eye. I don't want a pet to give it a job to do". I miss her, she was worthy of love too and she gave to me, much in return!

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️
