Moments of Peace

studioghiblifan15 January 15th, 2023

Lately, I've been trying to find ways to deal with my anxiety. I enjoy walking, listening to music, playing with my dog, and trying to get better at playing the ukulele. But sometimes it's hard to motivate me to do these tasks. I want to better myself and get back into the things I used to love doing.

What tasks do you like to do that help you find a moment of peace in your day-to-day lives and how do you stay motivated?

Hey there, @studioghiblifan15 and welcome to 7 Cups! We're happy to have you here. 😄

You mentioned you have anxiety, so I'd first like to offer you some of our resources on anxiety.

As for tasks that I do that help me to find a moment of peace in my day-to-day, I'd say we have some similarities! I also like to listen to music and play with my dog. I also have a creative outlet, although in my case it isn't the ukulele (although they are lovely instruments!). I usually prefer to write or doodle, as they help me deconstruct my thoughts in a productive way!

Well, unless one is stuck in such fun things as an unconscious blame-shame game then there are many things people find overall helpful when dealing with anxiety.

Not all things work for all people - ultimately someone must follow their own star eternally home, but ten things I might practise daily are:

  • Skincare (start with sunscreen)
  • Meditation (hundreds of options)
  • Emotion-labeling ('I feel cray-cray af')
  • Exposure therapy
  • Making the bed
  • Hygiene (showering, brushing teeth, flossing, tongue scraping, tidying home and garden.)
  • Exercise
  • Eating well
  • Doing something with purpose daily
  • Listen to or make music

Me again!

Wanted to add that the Finch app is CBT based and can be very helpful.

By the way, it sounds like you're doing very well...what kind of dog do you have?

Oh and there's something called DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy) and also 'radical' DBT which is regular DBT plus leg day: Here's a link to a psychologist giving all the deets on DBT.

There's also a tool I've been fiddling with sometimes called 'The Work' by Byron Katie - she has taught it for 30 years now and still does live teachings online three sats a week since covid - here's a little compilation of it in action.

@studioghiblifan15 Taking a walk whether its by myself or with my dog has been the only thing that has taken me away from everything that gives me stress, frusteration, unhappiness lately, which is sad to me because I used to have more things then just walking

Brene Brown has some good stuff out there - she has a viral TED talk and wrote books, one being 'Atlas of the Heart'.

Louise Hay and Tara Brach are pretty epic too!

Hi @studioghiblifan15 ! I love studio Ghibli too btw :D
So if I'm trying to find activities to calm my day, I would do some relaxation techniques such as Jin Shin Jutsu, Breathing Techniques, and Grounding techniques, you can search them in youtube, it's pretty much simple things to do :D

I go fishing. Surfcasting, to be exact. The isolation, calmness, and connection to the ocean I feel immediately soothes me. Tying rigs soothes me. Collecting gear soothes me. When it’s a week before a hurricane and the water is super rough, fighting through the surf is cathartic.

it’s my life now, the only thing I do outside of work. There’s a damn good reason for that. I’m not saying get into fishing, I’m saying dedicating your time to something bigger than yourself can keep those hands from being idle.
