What is a word that just makes you...

It's not even a bad word. It's just a word that sounds icky, squicky, or like nails on the chalkboard of your mind.

For me it's flesh. 😬

🫵 Your turn!

Not so much a word but I freak out when people say  110%.

It drives me nuts.

@David57

I can see how that could annoy you and completely! 😊 ❤️ Certainly not always, but many times I have noticed that those who say they have given 110 % or will give 110 % might actually be more in the 10 % range comparatively speaking. Quite fascinating!

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️

@SparkyGizmo

To me it just shows a misunderstanding of both math and language. Better to say nothing.  "He gave 110%"!!!!! Jeez preserve me.

@crispSoul913 I wouldn't say it's cringey but I agree with you in that "bae" is not a great word, yes. For some reason it seems low-class to me...maybe because most people who use it are from a ghetto somewhere.

@Heather225 yyayyyy so fun had to read them all. Unfortunately nothing to add to the adventure.

@Heather225 The word cringe does, its such a childish sounding term when there's literally dozens of superior alternatives.

Bae, prego, comfy, ratchet (unless referencing the actual tool), yeet, thirsty (unless referencing the desire for a beverage), and any use of a social media platform as a verb. When did I turn into my parents?!?!?!

Most academic words after the 1980's like "postcolonialism", "problematic", & "deconstruct" I find distasteful (& pretentious). "Unpack" is especially cringey! Clear speaking is a dying art.

Legitimate question: Before the word “unpack” was used, what was the word used before that? I can’t think of one…

@jesusredeemedme2425 I can't either. What I do know is that anyone who uses "unpack" &/or "deconstruct" instead of, say, "analyze" (or even just "take a look at _____") really wants you to believe (s)he is oh so intelligent. 🙄 If someone unironically uses "unpack" & "deconstruct" then you can bet that person has 1) gone to a university on one of the coasts, & 2) majored in something completely useless.

It's not a word but one thing that turns me off is the "soul patch". Yeccchhh. That little patch of hair between a guy's lower lip & a bare chin...it just looks sleazy. And stupid. It's like you want to grow a beard but don't have the commitment. 😒

@jesusredeemedme2425 Indeed. Guys who wear mullets are the type who think Billy Ray Cyrus was a great singer. 🤢

For me it’s not a single word. It’s actually when people cuss too much or are too excited, too loud and when they talk “overreactively” like if someone wrongly says “Yeah I know what you’re about to say. You want him to go the doctor as often as he should” and instead of simply responding with “Ha! No but good guess” their response is “No!” and it’s not even out of anger which would actually make sense if they overreacted like that..

@akunknown A word of advice, then: Never watch any drama or soap opera on Telemundo...or on any other Latino-themed channel for that matter. The other programs may be fine if you're into that culture, but avoid the dramas & soap operas. In one of my previous jobs there was a TV in the employee break room, & the Telemundo network was usually on...there was this drama show that played twice a week, if memory serves. Everything the actors said was loud & on Level 10. It made American soap operas look moderate & rather dry. Seriously.
