Hi everyone! I hid my orthorexia for years from doctors and therapists. My doctor would raise his eyebrows at my constantly fluctuating weight but I avoided ever talking about it to anyone. A few years later, and I snapped out of it and realised I was sick of feeling weak all the time. Even after I lost all that weight, I realised that being smaller didn't really make me happy. But now my life is stressful and I feel like I can't control anything... And it is becoming tempting to "diet" extremely again just so I can feel some control over my body. I recently joined 7cups hoping to talk to people who understand because the people in my life don't understand the temptation to starve myself.

Hey @niceCircle9317

Welcome to the Eating Disorder Sub-community! I'm really sorry to hear about your struggle with orthorexia, and how you hid this from your doctor and therapist. I can imagine how difficult it was to have to hide such a big part of your life, especially if they had suspicians. It can be difficult to admit our struggles to ourselves, but it can be the first major step in recovery. I'm really glad to hear that you were able to admit to it, and realise that your happiness didn't rely on your weight, as your eating disorder may of been convincing you.

Stressful times can certainly make it difficult to stick to our guns, and not fall back into old habits and I can totally understand how difficult it can be to continue the fight! Red heart I'm sorry that it is becoming extremely tempting to go back to the dieting culture, I really hope you are able to find those who understand here, and you can get the support you are looking for! We are here for you, and care about you Red heart

If you'd like to join in, we have weekly check-ins in the forums for those who would like a bit of extra weekly support! I'd love to see you there *hugs* Also feel free to message me if you'd like an eating disorder listener, I can't promise to make things better but i'll always be there to listen or rant to! Red heart

@emsworld

Hello everyone! My name is Olivia and I am 15. I began struggling with food about 6-ish months ago. I have not been diagnosed with an eating disorder but I can say with 100% certainty that I do struggle with a disordered relationship with food. Idk if that makes sense but I'm trying lol. I have been struggling with using unhealthy coping mechanisms, dangerous food practices, damaged self-image, "dangerous thoughts", thinspo, and various other things that I won't get into right now. I'm mostly here just to talk and see if I should/if I deserve to get help. Idk if I should reach out for help but here I am! Hello Everyone!

@scarletclarke Hi Olivia! Right off the bat, we have three things in common: We're new, we're 15, and we aren't diagnosed with an ED but are pretty darn sure something's up. I'm glad to see someone else on here in a similar situation. My friends are sympathetic, but don't understand. Hopefully we can get our problems ironed out.

@emsworld Hi! I know it's September, but I've yet to see a thread for this month. My name is Robin, and I love to play my clarient, bake, run with my school team, and read. After restricting for half a year and losing weight, I've lost control over my eating and have developed a tendencey to binge at night. All I want is to be a normal and healthy kid. I'm hoping to meet all of you lovely people and share stories so we can get back on the right track :)
