Binge eating

Babygirl228 July 14th

Trying to figure out how everyone combats binge eating. I do well throughout the week while I’m working, but when I’m sitting around I mentally just click into eating mode, and most of the time it’s the most unhealthy stuff.

Stay busy. When I'm distracted and intently working on something, I don't feel that need for food like I usually do.

That is pretty common for many people.  What do you enjoy doing that makes use of your mind and hands? Emotions can sometimes be the issues, like boredom, sadness, grief and other emotions.  Even good emotions can be a reason for eating.

Have you found anything that helps at all or that you do when you're not working that helps you?

I know these feelings well, and struggle with them. As @jesusredeemedme2425 mentioned, staying busy helps.

I try and make a list of things I want to get done each day and have a list of "backup" things I can do if I start to feel bored. I have found sometimes that a little 10 minute "nap" helps and in that time I try and think of something I could do like clean, go for a walk, read, ect. That will often motivate me from going out on a binge. It is a progress, but I try and give myself praise for each time it works and I find myself being productive rather than binge eating.

Again know that you are not alone in this and just your efforts of reaching out/trying are a tremendous step!

Personally, for me.

I set up tasks as a rewards system.

e.g. Study for (insert amount of time) and reward yourself with 2 cookies,

Complete house chores and reward yourself with 2 cookies.

I think of it as that I am working for something, so I don't have much guilt. I am getting things done, spacing out the consume rate while also rewarding myself.
