Binge Eating..

PhatGuy August 29th, 2017

I have been eating way too much for way too long... just gonna go downstairs for a drink but I come back with food also. Just gonna go grab 1 SNACK but I take at least 3x what I came for...

Rapid weight gain the past 3/4 years and now I'd probably class myself as extremely fat or obese...

I've tried to stop eating so much but I can't help it...

How can I avoid eating so much more than I go for?

it causes me to have big insecurities and attracts unwanted negativity & comments

I mean it does sound easy to think - oh ill try to stop eating so much, but it is harder said then done. Because sometimes it can be more the food and a reason binge eat, maybe stress or comfort or anything and finding the reason could help. Or do somethung else, maybe it coukd be a habit, you try and break that habit by doing other things to distract you in the time you want to binge, until gets less and less and become more normal.

Or eat slower and wait til you are full and keep a food jounal to recongise when these binges happen and see if can find a reason.

Ans try not to buy lots of food so its not in the house.

And as silly as this one sounds- but put your food up somewhere high, for me this really helps and im not sure why. But it being higher in my room stashed away makes me not bother so nuch if i can clesrly see it and not hard to reach and not out of the way. But like everyones different

Sorry if thats not helpful. But take care

And all the best x

@PhatGuy

Binge eating can be thought of as an addiction. And if you think of it in that terms, it can help you understand why it is hard to change. And, because we have to eat in order to live, it can be really hard to set boundaries with oursevles about how much we eat. Typically it helps to start with having regular meals throughout the day that fill your physical hunger and to work with a therapist and sometimes with a dietician as well to help with your metabolism and your emotional hunger.

If you tend to binge all day long once you've started, and not binging at all seems too daunting; then I'd suggest trying to divide up the days into 4 hour blocks. Most people find it easiest to resist binging in the first block, because in the morning we have more willpower. So start with that, and if you success in the 4 hours be proud of yourself. Once you can do the frirst block easily on most days of the week, then try to tackel the second block. This approach may take some time, but it is something I read in a book on binge eating and bulimia, and was something I'd already been trying myself with some limited success. This meathod also helps to build up your confidence that you can control the urges and delay them until the time you have allotted to eat. I hope that helps a bit.

@resourcefulPond1641 - Love that tip! I'm a big believer in small steps adding up to big success, so this makes perfect sense to me!
