Alternative treatments for Migraines
There are different options available to treat migraines. If you are one, who would like to try non pharmaceutical interventions, here is a list of alternative treatments for migraines.
1. Diet changes: Oftentimes certain foods are a trigger for migraines. Caffeine, chocolates, and cheese just to name a few. By limiting, avoiding, and or omitting these foods can help prevent migraines.
2. Stress management: Stress changes the levels of hormones and molecules in the body as well as vasoconstriction of the vessels causing an increase in pressure therefore initiating migraines in some.
3. Aromatherapy: Using essential oils like lavender, peppermint, and/or ginger either by smelling or applying on skin can help relax the body to help ease the pain
4. Herbs: Studies have shown that certain herbs can help with preventing migraines
5. Massage: Helps with stress reduction and tension relief
6. Acupuncture: The use of fine needles into points in the body helps release chemicals that block out pain, therefore helping with migraine pain.
These are just some alternative treatments for migraines. If you have others that you have used and have been successful with it, please share it with us.
@Keola What great recommendations, Keola! You know what also helps? This is going to sound dumb, but typically when I get a headache I feel turning into a migraine, or a migraine, it's always on one side of my head. Having my partner gently tug on my hair on that side of my head (or me doing it myself), or playing with the hair on that side of my head, sometimes helps relieve the pain. I know it sounds silly, but it's helped me!

It does not sound dumb at all. I am happy it works for you. The hair tugging is like a form of distraction or deferment from the pain you are feeling from the migraine. And while your hair is being played with relaxation to help ease the pain.
Such an awesome pain relief that works for you, may have to try that next time I have one.
I neglected to add to my list, ICE :p When my migraine attacks and I could, I lay on the side of my head with the migraine on an ice pack. Only risk with this is some sort of freezer burn on the area. So I make sure that it is wrapped up with a pillow case or towel. Also to reposition my head off the ice often, would say every 15minutes, but sometimes i fall asleep. That's why I make sure there's extra covering on the ice pack :)
