Struggling to get disability

LavenderGoddess February 11th, 2021

Hello everyone! I am 24 years old and I live in a small rural town. Due to my age I suppose doctors do not take me seriously. I have health issues and mental health issues, but it’s mostly the mental health issues that prevent me from leaving my house (and therefore working). I have PTSD, severe anxiety and severe depression. I have been turned down for disability once even though I had friends, family and my doctor talk about my conditions. I’m starting to feel like I will never get approved. Any advice or similar experiences?

I haven't been able to qualify for any disability governement programs either. I find there is a very strong bias towards mobility disabilities - ie. can you walk so far?, if so there's a lot of hoops. It's frustrating.

I can't imagine how frustrating that must be I feel there is a completely unfair bias towards disabilities that can be seen with the eyes which for many people just isn't the case!

Hopefully one day this biased is removed cause it really does effect so many people who shouldn't be effected by this.

It can also just be incredibly invaliditing for you to not qualify for this support as if your disability is less valid or important then someone for instance with physical disability. I Just want to remind you, from another person with an 'invisible disability', that this isn't the case and your situation is perfectly valid ♥️

Did a quick Google Search and this is what I could find:

Maybe try to find a doctor in your network that understands you and can help you get the disability benefits you need. You could also contact an attorney who can do Disability claims and see if they can help.

Contact an attorney for sure. If you don't get on they don't get paid. I am not saying social security intentionally tries to make it hard but when I applied about 15 years ago they decided not to request all my medical records. Got an attorney and my hearing was about 5 minutes the judge literally said it should never have even reached him and was approved on the spot. Highly unlikely it will be that easy but the attorney wants you to win and knows the best strategy.

Hello,

I know what you are going through. When I was trying to get disability I had to wait 3 years. I had to be denied twice and then got an attorney and when I finally won my case they only gave me 1/2 of my benefits. I don't even know how they're allowed to get away with that. My boyfriend just tried to get disability as well. They keep denying him and he's got really bad rheumatoid arthritis. The whole social security system is a joke. If had not have my grandparents to pay my bills for 3 years I would have never been able to get disability myself. I have been diagnosed with several severe mental illnesses and they put me through all that for 3 years. I don't know what they expect people to do. I'm sorry you're going through that and wish you a lot of luck. I know how awful it can be to have to go through all of this and have to work on top of it. Best wishes.

I'm 23 with chronic depression and migraines from a past head injury over 10years ago. That's 10 years of medical history that still somehow doesn't automatically qualify me for disability. It's so tough finding work or employers willing to hire. Especially out here in TX. I have a small business, it doesn't pay bills yet though. I have the same doubts
