Surgery Denied

So I’ve been waiting for surgery on my damaged airway for two years but now there saying I’ve put on too much weight, which considering I can’t work out or even walk without losing my breath, is an obvious reason why. I feel like there just trying to blame me for it being difficult when I’ve only done what they’ve asked, gone to all my scans and appointments. Ever feel like you get blamed for having a disability?

@LauraAM Hi Laura, welcome to 7 Cups and the Disability Support Community.

I am so sorry this has happened, it is so frustrating. Two years is a long enough wait without being told this. I know that a lot of our community have faced similar challenges and it is a struggle.

I don't know which country you are in or what their healthcare support is like, but is there anything you can do? Is there a support network?

With many disabilities it is hard to not put on weight as sometimes lack of movement and inability to exercise play their part, and who can blame us when food and meals become a welcome distraction, (and necessity).

What are your next steps? Maybe chatting here we can find a way to help you.

Have you consulted with a lawyer about this? Depending on your nation of residence & its laws re disability & medical care, you may have a viable case.
