Do people see you as older than you in reality are because of your disability?
Do people see you as older than you in reality are because of your disability? For example, my nephews who are still kids and don't have many experiences in their lives only saw old people using wheelchairs and so, they think that i am old, as old as their grandparents. Their grandparents, my mother and father and my brother's wife's mother and father already have mobility issues.
So, it (that i am old) is not said by them with bad intent, and i try not to be hurt by it.
How about you?
@CheerySandi What an interesting question. I think people tend to treat me as if I am of low intelligence, or deaf even! But you raise a good point in that mostly older people use wheelchairs? I had never thought that people might see me as older when I use one. A lot of people are very kind and helpful, but some can't bear to look which can be hurtful.
I wonder what others will say?
