Dysautonomia

LittleLadybugEmma February 29th, 2016

Group of several conditions of autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction. The entire body can be affected because of the widespread role of the ANS. Dysautonomia affects regulation of heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, body temperature, and other vital functions. The hallmark symptom is orthostatic intolerance, which is the inability to stay in an upright position for an extended period.

The specific type that I have is Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (HM type), Mast Cell Activation Disorder, and chronic fatigue.

@LittleLadybugEmma

That sounds like a lot to cope with. Can I ask how you manage the condition, particularly the chronic fatigue?

Take care of you :)

@BestIcanbe To be honest, fatigue is the symptom that I have the most difficult time living with and managing. I try to manage fatige by knowing and respecting my limits. I know that I simply do not have the energy to do everything that a healthy person would so every day. Doing too much one day can result in being able to do practically nothing the next. There are oftentimes many things that I need, want, and should do, but I cannot realistically do them all. This forces me to prioritize that list - "needs" come first, followed by "wants," and then "shoulds." It is also important for me to be able to say "no" - both to other people and myself - when I know that something would result in pushing myself too far.
