While a lot of people look down on disabilities I also think it is good to look at the positives of our disabilities and who they’ve made us become. So with that, we have done these questions before but I feel it is a good time to reflect again on them:

  1. What is something about your disability that makes you proud? (i.e. For me it has made me strong willed)

  1. What is your biggest challenge you face with your disability?

  1. How can we as a community support you this week?

Yes, I don't think people always realize how much hard work goes into just living sometimes, it is a challenging task. That and it is frustrating watching others do it easily and then not being able to do it so easy ourselves.

It can take quite some effort to get people to understand what we are saying sometimes, especially if it is something complex. To us it is normal but to others they can't fully understand what we are going through thus they have a hard time understanding.

I am sorry you have been feeling sad. I hope people are nice to you to because we each deserve respect and kindness in this world. Hang in there!

What is something about your disability that makes you proud? (i.e. For me it has made me strong willed)

That I can function in day to day life. It took a long time to get to that point, but I guess it's an accomplishment on its own.

What is your biggest challenge you face with your disability?

Accepting that this is what my life is for the rest of my life, most of the time. And feeling like I don't really exist lately.

How can we as a community support you this week?

All I really need is communication. Both sides, sharing and listening. It usually only tends to be either or these days.

@OneErased

That is awesome that you are able to function day to day! I can't fully understand your situation but what I can understand is the hard work that goes into trying to function in day to day life. It takes months and even years to get to that point sometimes.

Acceptance is a hard thing. It is accepting that the way you saw life going isn't going to go that way anymore. It is a loss, a loss of life. Of who we used to be and that is tough. It is okay to feel like you don't exist as that is a normal reaction to have. I just want you to know though that I see you and you do exist! And that matters! ❤️

Communication is always a good thing to have. I am hoping to get back here soon to hosting a few sessions a month and I hope you can join in and see that you are seen and heard.

Hi @charmingSky5972. Thank you for being so brave and sharing with us! I can understand how that first question would be hard for you to answer but I am glad you are still here. I am proud of you! Life isn't easy but I like to believe we are all here for some purpose.

Nervousness is a natural reaction to doing a lot of things, especially if it is something out of our comfort zone. Have you done anything out of your comfort zone lately?

I am glad we can be here! Myself and all the leaders are here for you. You can find a list of us below. If you ever need to talk to us from a member account or have a listener related problem please feel free to reach out to me or one of the other leaders!❤️

tbh, i feel like normal things are out of my comfort zone every day. going in public, shopping, doctor's appointments, socializing, all seems out of my comfort zone but i have to keep going because that's normal daily activities. thank you for the support :)

@charmingSky5972, that's okay if "normal" things are out of your comfort zone. We all have different comfort zone levels and we will respect that about you.

1. What is something about your disability that makes you proud?

The fact that I came though many evolutions in my understanding of my disability and discovered it doesn't own me. I do what I need to do and my disability has to work around me. That I can achieve this goal has made me believe in myself.

2. What is your biggest challenge you face with your disability?

People. Especially people in healthcare. They are appallingly ignorant of how to deal with people with disabilities. I actually see this in my own occupation. I've developed a sort of "disability warrior" attitude when I come across individuals like this. I refuse to allow them to treat me differently and not in a positive way. We need to take control of our lives and show those of this stance we are equal with them.

3. How can we as a community support you this week?

It might be nice to have some open chat time with disabled and non-disabled people so we can learn about each other better. Maybe have a subject that would showcase what disabled people are capable of and allow the non-disabled to join in a chat dialogue.
