Allergy Friendly Hallowe'en - Teal Pumpkin Project

AffyAvo October 31st, 2017

The Teal Pumpkin Project was initiated by FARE for those with food allergies.

Houses that are giving out non-food treats put out a teal pumpkin to signal to treck or treaters with dietary restrictions that there are safe options.

If you're participating what are you handing out?

I have Hallowe'en themed pencils, erasers and rings. I also keep my nut/peanut free chocolate bars in a separate bowl from the others plus I have chips and cheezies that I just give out from the box theye in.

@AffyAvo what coincidance, i was talking about it early, saying i give only non-food surprises at halloween, bouncy balls was the most popular in previous years. even kids without allergies often prefered get it instead of candies/chocolate ! This year i abandonned candies and chocolate. I go with paw patrol bounce balls!

This is a super amazing iniciative! I love the idea, we don't have much kids or trickor treaters in the last few years so I buy candy I end up eating myself but I will keep it in mind next year!

@AffyAvo This is a great idea! I wish I would have seen it sooner! I have some family members who have allergies to nuts so I know how it is! I always feel bad when half the stuff they got they cant even eat!

@HeyItsRoo The great thing about this is you can get a few things and if not handed out keep them for next year. The non-food items don't expire as quickly smiley

Back in my day we turned on the lawn sprinklers when trick or treaters came. It is "trick" or "treat" after all. Suffices to say our house got egged alot.

:P

I love the idea, makes a lot of sense. I have a friend who has a severe nut allergy, he couldn't even go trick or treating out of fear of eating something in it with peanuts and ending up in the hospital.
