Member Appreciation Week - The True Measure of Value
Hey everyone! This week, we have a super special event to celebrate all of our lovely members here - member appreciation week!! (click here to see the announcement post!) our theme is “the true measure of value”, so let’s talk about that! 💙
What does “the true measure of value” mean?
It's important to recognize that everyone is valuable and worthy. We all have different cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds, abilities, gender identities, religions, beliefs, values, and opinions, but we all have one thing in common - we are all human and all deserve support.
What are values?
Your values are the things that YOU believe are important and they affect how you live your life and the decisions you make. These determine your priorities and how you create opinions about certain things. When the things that you do match these values, that can be a great source of happiness, so it’s great to figure them out!
How do values help you?
When we think about our personal values, we can find what’s important to us. Thinking about and recognizing these values can help us make lots of important decisions.
Values and Depression:
With depression specifically, sometimes we may find ourselves violating or ignoring our values because of the emotions that come with it. However, the more value we create and work with, the harder it can be to engage in some behaviours that keep us stuck in those devaluing moods. Trying to instead focus on our values and what we can do to feel better can really help us fight depressed moods. Let’s recommit to our values together!
Here is a challenge for you!
Find your values:
To find out what your values are, here is a fun activity that can help you think about and recognize your values!
1: Think about times when you were the happiest.
What were you doing? Who were you with? Were there any factors that contributed to this happiness?
2: Think about the times when you were the proudest.
What made you proud? What factors contributed to this feeling?
3: Think about the times when you were the most fulfilled.
What was it that was fulfilled or felt fulfilling? How did this give you some meaning? What factors contributed to this feeling?
Reference: Feel free to use this list below to help you think about some of your top values! (try to think of at least 3 and use the questions from the previous bit for reference!)

I'll begin with my example using something that made me happy!
1: Think about times when you were the happiest.
*remembers a time when i was happy*
What were you doing?
I was listening to music and partying!
Who were you with?
I was with a lot of my friends and a lot of people i hadn’t met yet, but specifically my best friend!
Were there any factors that contributed to this happiness?
Some factors that contributed to this happiness were having good food and not thinking about anything except being in the moment!
So, what is the value you chose?
What is one thing you can do this week to make you feel happy, proud or fulfilled with this value?
Thank you all so much for reading and participating in this event and I hope this will help you all! Remember you are all more incredible than you know and you all deserve support. You are so appreciated and I'm looking forward to seeing all of your amazing responses and values! (:

Hello! Thank you Emma for this thread. It was very interesting and made me think. Here are my answers to the questions:
1: Think about times when you were the happiest.
What were you doing? Who were you with? Were there any factors that contributed to this happiness?
I'm not sure this was the time I felt the happiest but I look back to the time when I was ice skating with my best friend. I think it was a lot of fun because I don't know how to ice skate so my friend had to hold my hand the whole time. It really helped me I and I felt truly happy back then. (values: entertainment, friendliness, playfulness)
2: Think about the times when you were the proudest.
What made you proud? What factors contributed to this feeling?
I felt proud when I got into high school I wanted to get and nobody really believed in me. My whole family was shocked and I was crying happy tears. (values: determination, education, faith)
3: Think about the times when you were the most fulfilled.
What was it that was fulfilled or felt fulfilling? How did this give you some meaning? What factors contributed to this feeling?
Maybe it's not the best answer but right now I can't think about anything else. So, I felt fulfilled when I lost weight. It made me believe in myself and that I can change everything. (values: control, motivation, satisfaction)
Thank you for reading. Take care

1: Think about times when you were the happiest.
*remembers a time when I was happy*
What were you doing?
I was having lunch & waffles.
Who were you with?
I was with my fiancee. After lunch, we had gone to a beach for a walk & a light conversation.
Were there any factors that contributed to this happiness?
The fact that we were together spending quality time was enough to make me feel happy. No matter whether we do something or sit quietly, his presence alone is enough to contribute to my happiness. ❤
So, what is the value you chose?
Gratitude ❤
What is one thing you can do this week to make you feel happy, proud, or full, filled with this value?
I can practice gratitude by being grateful to Almighty God for bestowing upon me such a great life with loads of amazing people.
@lyricalAngel70
gratitude is an amazing value! being grateful to god is such an awesome way to feel grateful for your life and all the people in it!
