I don't believe in happiness or being happy..

Smile4mepls February 13th, 2018

I don't like it when people are like "everyone gets a chance!" or "Life is meaningful!"
Frankly, it disgusts me. I don't know if it's just me but whenever someone is just positive like that it makes me cringe.

To be honest, I don't think I want to be happy. It seems like a far away concept that seems silly to try to attempt at.

I rather listen to music that makes me cry than to listen to someone puking out general happy quotes to me.

But maybe it's just me...

I kind of agree with what you are saying. What is happiness? That is the real question! I think society has explained to us happiness in the wrong way. According to society, happiness is supposed to be when we don't have negative feelings and well... This is not possible, research shows how this fact is not possible and how a lot of people tend to feel sad, angry or anxious through generations and how more people feel depressed or suffer from a mental health disorder. However, I read a book that changed my mind, you should read it. it is called the happiness trap and it talks about happiness in a different way, where sadness and positive feelings are all included. Give it a try.

The happiness trap by Russ Harris

"Are you, like milllions of Americans, caught in the happiness trap? Russ Harris explains that the way most of us go about trying to find happiness ends up making us miserable, driving the epidemics of stress, anxiety, and depression. This empowering book presents the insights and techniques of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) a revolutionary new psychotherapy based on cutting-edge research in behavioral psychology. By clarifying your values and developing mindfulness (a technique for living fully in the present moment), ACT helps you escape the happiness trap and find true satisfaction in life"

You sound like an ad... but I know you mean well. Thank you.

But like I said before, I'm not looking for happiness anymore. I stopped that long along. I'm basically just going with the coast in life.

@Smile4mepls I've found that when I'm not feeling particularly positive, sometimes all I want is someone with whom to commiserate. Having someone understand whatever feeling I'm experiencing is far far more valuable than arbitrary happiness. Hearing positive affirmations and declarations of overcoming negativity don't help when what you're looking for is some minimal level of validation, just a brief momentary respite where you're acknowledged for who you are right now. The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows and it's reassuring to know you're not the only one to realize that. I'd just refrain from saying happiness doesn't exist. I've learned, if anything, the universe tends to prove you wrong when it comes to absolutes, if only just to spite you. Ironic isn't it?

@Smile4mepls

I know how you feel.

To me, happiness isn't a big thing in the end.

You go through life with all that stress and no reward or "well done, you got this far", all you really get is a life of pain and then off you pop, it's over before it gets good.

The happiness isn't really a reward, just a little extra something you really have to scavenge for.
