How do I know if it's depression or anxiety?
I've never had any professional counseling, but I have been put in the past on anxiety meds from my doctor. I KNOW I have bad anxiety, but I also am wondering if I have depression as well. Sometimes I have some dark thoughts, but I feel like when I read up on depression it mainly talks about the "inability to get out of bed" and "things you used to love you don't love anymore." I don't have any of those symptoms like that. I'm very responsible and active,but I definitely feel like sometimes I have dark thoughts such as life being too difficult. Has anyone else had a hard time not knowing if it's depression too or just anxiety? Or any advice on how I should go about learning what it is i'm feeling? Thanks!

The tricky thing about mental illnesses are that they can often share many similar characteristics. To complicate things even further, they can often be cormorbid as well, i.e. those who suffer from anxiety may also suffer from depression as well, and these conditions can feed back and forth into each other. Your best bet is to see physician and talk to him or her about it.
