I wanted to go to a concert last night to see The Surfrajettes (but I had car trouble). They are a girl band that plays surfer music in Go-Go boots.

A few years ago I made a Go-Go themed poster after I saw the name on Batman 1966 TV show. So I shared it with the band.

@Positron2 Sounds like it would've been fun to see, & did the band like the poster? (I imagine they did!)

I need an honest opinion, can I draw Well? Should I stop drawing because it's not for me?

my parents say I'm good but they are biased.

Tell me in your opinion if I have the talent to grow or not.

(I won't be offended  I just want to know)

They are in more or less order from oldest to newest.

(Yes, the ones in pencil are not very visible, I tried both natural light and lamp but nothing as worked much)

These are the most recent drawings I have made in these years, I have some others too but I should go look for them, If you want more examples tell me and I'll post those too.

@BlaiseAce Talent?... 🤔 You got something there...how much magic you have is hard to tell. What you gotta do is build your skills. You need training, the right kind, & to put in the time & sweat. Give it a few years & then you'll know.

If you prefer to learn from online sources like most people, start here. Or just do a websearch for "online art class".

If you prefer traditional sources like me & want to learn human anatomy (it'll make your faces & characters more convincing, even if you only draw cartoons), there are two names you should look up:

  1. George Bridgman.
  2. Andrew Loomis.

They were both pro artists & instructors in the early to mid-20th century. Both men wrote several how-to books for aspiring artists...you won't go wrong if you buy any of their books, read them thoroughly & use what they teach you in your artwork. I'm a Bridgmanite, but I will admit Loomis is equally skilled although his style is different. (Loomis was originally one of Bridgman's better students!)

@BlaiseAce

I agree with slowdecline, you have talent that needs training in art school.

My suggestion is to practice drawing REAL things.
Start with easy things like a still life of plates, cups, mugs, bottles, fruit, boxes, etc. Maybe buy a Maquette = A wooden doll for artist use to pose human figures. Or just use a Barbie. Do you have stuffed animals? Get a foam wig holder head and a wig for it to practice drawing faces. Make sure proportions and alignment is correct before starting to draw details. Think about 'Negative space' = for example: Draw the outline of a chair, but not the chair. Then draw everything around the chair, but not the chair. Where the chair is should look like a hole in your drawing. Don't be afraid to use your eraser. Try covering a sheet of paper with black charcoal or pencil. Look what the light is doing and lighten that with the eraser. Use your eraser to draw the light.

The trick is to draw exactly what your eyes see, not what your brain is telling you what you think you see. Our minds trick us a lot when we look at things. It is your job to be analytical and draw what is really there.

Once you master proportions, then feel free to make any kind of ART you like.
Keep at it. Have fun!

@BlaiseAce - You just got one of the best tips ever. @Positron2 is right...every artist who's half-decent or better has heard it. Don't waste this. Write it down; re-read it every so often after you've done a few drawings. It cannot be stressed enough:

"The trick is to draw exactly what your eyes see, not what your brain is telling you what you think you see. Our minds trick us a lot when we look at things. It is your job to be analytical and draw what is really there."
