..one of the group members spotted a dull flicker of a fire in the distance!

By the fire sat a withered old man.  His face partially hidden in shadows as the light from the flames danced over his outline.   He sipped from a small tin cup and looked up as the group approached.

"Who's there?" he barked into the darkness as the first of the travelers began to be revealed in the firelight.

Cold and exhausted , the group was cautious, yet relieved to have found somewhere where they could possibly feel the warmth of a flame, if only for a moment.

"Hello!" Yelled one of the travelers. "We mean no harm.." she continued as the man leaned forward to get a better look at the group.

They approached the front porch of the quiet inn where a calloused and wrinkled man sat. On his face laid a long scar across his face, Illuminated by the sputter of a single candle. "We can find somewhere else" her friend whispered. She paused for a moment, searching her bag, finding the bread she packed soggier than a sea slug. She peered over her shoulder eyeing the others...  then back to her friend. She offered a reassuring smile, before turning around. "What are you doing?" her friend muttered.

She continued up the rickety porch greeted by the partial warmth of the candle. Relieved to finally have refuge from the rain. She took off her hood and his eyes relaxed, "We are just some travellers searching for a place to stay until the rain passes over."
