Making a good social media post!
Hey hey wonderful people coming across, hope y'all are doing well. ❤
Today's post is a part of the Content Development and Marketing program, under the Academy Fall Events. 🎃
Visuals are always more appealing than just text, visuals help in grabbing the attention of the reader, and make them want to open the post and see what it's all about.
We'll be discussing what can help you to make a graphic post that stands out on social media in the following points.
-
Intent: The "why" behind your post and content, what is it that *you* want to convey to the reader.
Be specific, thorough, well-researched, and knowledgeable about the idea.
Designing graphics: A broader area to consider, where we keep in mind various factors like the platform/ social media site to be used to promote our content, viewers and network base, engagement audience etc.
Image Size:
Make sure your images correspond to the image sizes the networks provide.
Always aim for the highest image quality. That includes pixels and resolution.
-
Text:
Use an adequate font size, that's legible enough.
It's okay to play with different sizes and styles to highlight certain things.
Use inclusive language. Avoid ableist language, stick with gender-neutral pronouns and terms, share diverse voices and emoji, and evaluate text for assumptions of limited points of view, to cater to the maximum audience.
Use simple language, and avoid slang, if they aren't specific to your post.
Avoid overcrowding the graphic, opt for limited line length.
Always check spelling and grammar before posting. (No typos hehe 😛)
-
Contrast:
Make sure there’s enough contrast between the text and background so that it’s readable. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCGA) recommend using a contrast of 4.5 to 1. There are several free contrast checkers available if you’re not sure how to do this.
-
Without getting too technical, some good points to keep in mind:
Avoid using loud colours (like red, blue, yellow) with faint text colour
With more text, it's best to use a solid/ monochrome background or an opaque overlay
Having brushed upon a couple of things regarding colour scheme, image size, text, contrast etc, I'd like to assure yall that it is really easy to get set and started with your first graphic, all you need to do is hop over to a site/ app that has free editable templates, and various options to select and modify your graphic as per your liking.
Sites that have free editable templates include:
♡ Canva (Please feel welcome to see this well-written guide on canva by @KimByeongIn)
♡ Snappa
♡ Have another that works for you? Share with us!
-
Captions and Connecting: Simply making a graphic won't do the job alone, it's important we caption it in a way that resonates with the audience, conveys the purpose, builds engagement and connects with users.
Some ideas for captions include: summarizing the content, mentioning the main motto of the post, asking questions/ inviting thoughts, sharing experiences etc.
Include relevant hashtags and consider using mentions and tagging other users, to build a network, and allow more engagement. Check out the 5 Free Hashtag Analytics Tools that can help you with this.
- Make use of emojis, and shared experiences.

We can always emphasize more on practicing, and practicing and practicing, trials and errors haha lots of it, just that they aren't "errors" per say, only opportunities to learn and try again for the better outcome. 💜
I loveeee making graphics for the Peer Appreciation Program, and we are always open to new team mates also!😛 (learning from you Cherie haha🤣)

@isamei
Aw no worries, this is beautiful, I love how the background image adds value to the quote too. Thankyou for sharing. ❤
Sharing the text here:

@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
Hello everyone! I made these, I am confused which one I should keep so I need yall's opinion which seems to be 'it'
Also any improvement suggestions are welcome :D
@tidyHickory3283
forgot to add this one smh
@tidyHickory3283 what a powerful message 💗💗💗
I think I'm in love with the last design 😍
@ouiCherie
aw well all credits go to google for the quote tho lol
the last one was the first one I made before I decided to experiment with the backgrounds and that's how the hearts came into being xD I was trying to find a suitable background for the quote 😀
also how are you? 😮 been months since we last talked
@tidyHickory3283
they're all so beautiful 👍
@Helpingheart23
Thank you Helping 😀
@tidyHickory3283
Oh wow Tidy, this is a wonderful quote, and I love the graphics, it really is difficult to choose amongst them lol. 😮
I love the blue one the most, because it has the best readability, I feel. The contrast between white and blue is spot on.
I also love how the trees sort of make a heart shape in the sky hehe, for a lovely background to the quote, in the second and third pictures, the heart definitely accentuates the overall feel of the graphics.
I'd just add the second quotation mark ("") too lol at the end of the quotes, rest is perfect-o. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us. ❤
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
haha thank you Sunshine 😀
I love it the most too cause it looks cool too lmao like it's not all too sappy xD
what's the point of encouraging words if there is no heart xD 😉
lmao idk where to put the second quotation mark because it would look a bit weird xD but I will take up the suggestion and see where it fits 😃
@tidyHickory3283
Haha ofcourse "not too sappy" yesss xD and "what's the point of encouraging words if there is no heart" I agreeee. XD Love hearts too! ❤
Yes, I meant after the end of the quote. 😛
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
lol I do too ❤️
and I know lol and I was saying that only that the quote is not written in 1 line or 2 lines that I can put at both start and end. the format of the quote will make the marks awkwardish xD
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou Making quality posts is very important inside or outside of the community. Negative or strongly opinioned posts don't benefit anyone sometimes... It's much better to create meaningful posts that can expand peopole's horizons, insipre and create positivity. Thank you for these great tips!
@calmDew1576
Thankyou for replying, Dew. I agree with you, it's good to me mindful of the kind of content we are putting out in the world, and if it has some positive impact or no, it makes the difference truly, words have power and always appreciated to use them wisely. ❤
Yay for content that empowers and inspires. ✨
