Administrative Assistant
For everyone who currently works/previously worked as an administrative assistant, be honest. What did you really do for whatever company you worked for? What were your duties as an administrative assistant?

I just wanted to bump this post up in case anyone who has experience as an administrative assistant sees it. It would be great to hear from others about their duties and experiences!
I was an admin assistant for different job fields, and had to switch hats. One of the lastest admin jobs I had was in the legal field, but I was in the finance department. I was the one scheduling meetings, writing policies for the company, faxing, taking phone calls, writing emails etc. But sometimes I had to cover for Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable. At one point, they switched me to cover Payroll when the coworker left. So... That job was pretty unconventional.
Another admin job was in a trades field for a small family company, I was supposed to go out on the field but they REALLY wanted to keep me in the clerical area, since I was so good at it...apparently. I took over the manager's responsibilities, but without the pay and without the title and they made false promises. Anyways, I had to scan old documents into the computer, as they planned on shredding old paperwork. Dealt with the payments, schedule appointments for the clients, faxed information, took phone calls, did a lot of data entry ( I type up to 80WPM), and dealt with some 3rd parties occasionally, based on the type of work I was in.
In other admin jobs, I have had to create reference guides for my coworkers and present it to the president or CEO before.
Just kind of depends on how extensive the admin assistant job is. Could be as simple as taking phone calls, writing emails, faxing, data entry, taking payments, and scheduling appointments for either clients, coworkers, or bosses. Or could be more technical with writing policies/guides for the entire company and presenting it to management or higher departments. I also ended up covering other job positions, but ... I've done both blue collar and white collar jobs in multiple fields (ex. medical, auto industry, paint, plumbing, legal, mortgage, real estate, finance, pest control, etc), so they probably were just taking advantage of that, and probably wouldn't do that to other people normally.
