...See more Hi! Frankie here. Female. From Europe. Currently unemployed and feeling like s_ _ _ _ because of it. :) Depression and all of that jazz. I am looking for a job that i would feel fulfilled in and which isn't minimal wage.  So I got an idea!  I am starting a group here on 7cups. I would love to offer my support to people who are currentlt on the same challenging path in life. I woul love to have a supportive group of friends who are doing the same transition and whom i could support in their struggles as well.  I believe we can achieve our dreams faster when we are together.  We might draw inspiration from the following book: What colour is your parachute? And from Barbara Sher's methods of group problem solving.  Is anyone interested?  All of this will be anonymous and no one needs to share more than they are willing to.  I hope you hop on board!  Warm hug, Frankie

Job Search

...See more I have been out of a job for a few months now. I have been applying for jobs and having interviews but keep getting rejected. I haven't been applying recently due to some personal matters recently like my grandma passing away and dealing with my parents' potential divorce. I resumed job search yesterday and could only apply to one job. I couldn't find anything else that I was qualified for. It is so frustrating and I feel like I am a big failure. I don't get why I am destined to fail.

Resume Creating & Updates
by KristenHR
Last post

...See more One of the challenges of finding work can sometimes be updating resumes when there have been gaps between employment.  Let's talk about how to create or update your resume when you have times when you were out of work.  Another challenge is creating a resume when you are newly graduated and don't have any work experience yet.  How can you create or update your resume when you have fairly large gaps of time without employment? What things can you put on your resume to help you stand out when your resume doesn't seem to be very strong for either being new to the employment field or gaps of employment? What has been your biggest challenges and successes in creating or updating your resumes with these situations? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Kristen

Resigned from Toxic Job Same-Day
by ImpudentIncognito

...See more Finally, I resigned from a job that treated me poorly! I normally DON'T like to do a same-day noticed but I went through so much crap as a temp agent. I'll be brief and highlight a few reasons why: * I was hired as a hybrid (home & office) admin assistant for the finance department, but was thrown into doing accounting and payroll positions AND forced to (mostly) work in office... * When I helped out with projects, my boss would tell me I'm 'doing too much work's while providing little to no instruction on what to do and saying I "wasted" his time. * Then when I do the work as I'm supposed to, I get told later on I need to do more (hence why I do extra, because I'm prepared and already knew)... * When I first started there too, I was told not to talk to anybody, and it felt very...cold there... For example, since I write policies/guidelines for my job title, I asked a certain team if they could give me a job description to add in there, and my boss scolded me saying to not 'talk to them' and how they don't want to talk to me... * Again, it happened when the Tech team asked me to tell everyone that a technical issue was fixed, so I sent a message, and boss scolded me saying I'm stepping on toes, even though I'm doing what I was told... * I covered for payroll when the payroll clerk left. The payroll clerk screamed at me when i asked her if we should get approval from the executive director when the finance manager was out (since she's covering) and said I was being "stupid"... * When I was doing payroll, my boss kept saying I better not call out EVER or he will terminate my contract immediately... * I called out for a week when my son and myself were deadly sick, I tested for COVID just in case. My boss scolded me when I came back and took away the payroll position. * When my son got sick again, I said I can work from home, boss said no, today is unpaid BUT he called me to do work anyways, unpaid. * They also hardly pay me at that job compared to other people, the temp agency makes 4x the amount than I make with NO good benefits... So... I feel relieved that I left the job on the same day after the build up. I'm working towards getting my real estate license! I'm excited. I still have to talk to the temp agent recruiter for why I left suddenly.  Hope everyone is doing well.

...See more Hello, all! I'm a fresh graduate who's currently looking for jobs. A bit of background, I received a full-time offer during my last year of university, but because of unfortunate circumstances and a mistake I made, I lost it. I only knew about this a month before graduation, so I didn't have much time. Since graduating, it had been incredibly difficult to get back to recruiting. I didn't want to come to terms that I was unemployed, wasn't studying, and had to go through the tedious recruiting process again. On top of that, I was struggling with low self-esteem and guilt. It's been a few months, so I'm working towards forgiving my past self and starting recruitment again. Thankfully, my parents have welcomed me home and been so patient with me, so I have the freedom to do my very best. This thread will be a journal-like post of the things I do everyday to get a job, like updating my resume, cold emailing, and submitting apps. Feel free to follow or support me if you like!

I made the biggest mistake of my life

...See more About 6 months ago I had an amazing job and everything was going great. Then my husband gets a job offer in a different state. The move seemed like a good idea - closer to family, more affordable, better weather. So I said he should take it. At the time I thought my job was going to let me work remotely. But once we got here they pulled the rug from under me and said I couldn't work there anymore due to company policy (why didn't they know this when I first asked to work remotely?). So now I am stuck here with no job and no idea what to do next. My job was pretty unique and I doubt I will find something similar here. I wish I never agreed to move.

Starting over in 50s = overwhelming

...See more I'm fairly new to 7cups and wasn't sure which forum to post in - Depression (because this is really messing with my head) or Over 50s (since I think that is adding pressure in this situation) - but this seems like a good spot. I've had a fairly non-traditional job history - lots of tourism and customer service work in my 20s & 30s, built a real estate career in my 40s but got burnt out. I've tried a few new things since (did an MA, worked in TV). Now I'm stuck with the feeling that I did everything wrong because I don't have a current career and am not set up for retirement. The thought of starting a new career at this point is daunting, and I've lost a lot of self-confidence. Such as, maybe I'm not successful because I'm not as smart as I thought I was, or I'm unable to commit to anything. I also feel so limited because the cost of rent / buying has increased so much that I hardly even know where to live. I have a history of jumping into things too quickly, so I'm trying to take some time to consider my next moves but I feel lethargic and uninterested in anything. I watch a lot of TV and it just feels like wasting time. I just needed to get that off my chest, so thanks for listening.

I'm lost

...See more Right now I feel a bit lost in terms of what I'm going to do for work. I'll briefly explain what has happened. For reference, I worked and lived in Korea for 18 years and moved to Vietnam last October. After getting a divorce in early 2018 I went to work for a university that I thought was going to be a great job. Little did I know it was horrible. The professors were treated poorly and the president of the program I worked in was abusive. I ended up lasting two years before I quit in early 2020. I had no luck finding a job and to make matters worse this was when the pandemic started. Finally in March of 2021 I found a full time job teaching. The classes at that time were all online. I was having some physical problems as I had some issues with my mouth. At the time I was taking medication that made me drowsy. This really affected my performance. Needless to say my contract was not renewed and I finished at the end of Feb 2022. Again I tried to find a good job, but as hard as I tried I couldn't. I decided to uproot myself and move to Vietnam and work there. In 2017 I had visited here for three months so I was somewhat familiar with the place. My new job has been pure ***. In December I ended up negotiating my way out of the contract early so I could leave at the end of May. I've been doing interviews the last few months and again nothing. Now I'm debating whether or not to go back to Korea. I'm really unhappy here and I don't think things will get better. The problem is I don't have a job there either and I would have to start over and find a place to live. I just need someone to give me some advice. Thanks....

...See more Hi All, I have been offered a new job after 6 months of being unemployed. My previous job ended as it was project based. I am happy to have the offer but the salary is quite low, it is just the same like what i had on my very first job. My previous job paid close to 3 times what im being offered and i feel stuck not sure what to do. Working again would be great but im afraid i will not be happy with the salary and takes me back a bit. I have another project based job coming up in a months time but it will only be for two months but pays more. I am not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
