Can mania/hypomania episodes look different in the same person?

oliveThinker2918 April 5th, 2021

Hi all! Recently diagnosed with bipolar type 2 and I'm looking back trying to identify what my hypomania episodes look like so I can start to identify signs they're starting. I've come up with two possible symptom sets and they look a little different so I'm hoping those of you that have been diagnosed much longer can tell me if every single episode for you is the same or can you get different symptoms in each episode? TIA

Hi mine have been different, although there is some that are similar. What two have you identified as possible symptoms?

Hi! Thanks so much for replying. One set of symptoms kinda fit the stereotypical PMS symptoms (excessive irritability, being really sad one moment and kinda happy 5min later) but they're not consistent enough to actually be PMS. Second set of symptoms I'm dealing with right now actually - excessive irritability, feeling really overwhelmed by emotions, extreme restlessness is the big one. I kinda feel like I want to just pick up and move and also go running for an endless amount of time and I also kinda want to crawl out of my own skin. So definitely some overlap, but they FEEL really different too.

Oh yeah totally. Some hypomanias I am extremely hypersexual and will do things I normally wouldn’t, other hypomanias I will be obsessed with making art and have 0 libido. Other hypomanias I will be extremely angry and ancious(usually mixed)
