Wanting a change, but I am too scared
I believe I have had anxiety for a really long time. (I try not to self-diagnose) It's been wearing me down, and just constantly ruining my life, and I hate it! I want to go to therapy, but there are too many obstacles (financial, and I dont want to talk to my parents.) I think it would really benefit me if I could go, but I can't work it up to ask, and I'm scared it won't work and I will have wasted money.

If it's affecting your everyday life, therapy is definitely worth it. If it's any comfort to you, I suffer from anxiety as well however I've found that therapy really helps me. Your first therapist might not click with you, but once you find someone who understands you it's a relief. Have you checked if at least some of the cost would be covered by insurance?
@Idontknow247
thank you for replying :) i think it covers some. my sibling also goes, so i think it would be too much.

hi, i was worried about my financial situation too, but now my sibling and i both go to the same therapist. you might be able to get a discount.
Hello! @Idontknow247 just wondering how would you go about finding a new therapist? and letting your current therapist know that you're not clicking?
@throwaway2218
therapists are very personal, so of course not everyone will be the right fit for you. that's totally normal and your therapist probably understands and is used to that. and they usually want what's best for you. if you talk to your therapist about it, they might be able to give you a referral.
@mollyviolet12 oh okay thanks for letting me know
@adaptableAcai1391
this happened to me too. and i want to share what's works with me if that's okay...
although it's just recently for me (if almost 2 years is recently). same as you it's wearing me down and it's as if my life can never be improve in any other way, as if i'm stuck with this negative feelings and i can't get out of it. it's the same with me about theraphy... financial, as it's not cheap to get one. i dont want to tell my parents as well as i'm worried that they'll see me as crazy if i asked them that i need to see a therapist also, i dont want to make them worry. but then again, i ended up to tell them because i just cant take it anymore, i need help and my family is the closest people that can really gives me the support that i need. it was hard at first, because i'm scared and i dont know how to tell them because then i have to explain how i have anxiety in the first place. but, i dont have to tell them everything, all i need to do was to tell them what happen with me and they understand.
as for therapist, if you can't at the moment, do you have friends that really close to you and is a reallly good friend of yours? with me, i have friends that are just really really really great. they understand how to help me understand about what i feel and can answers all of my questions about it, they're always there when i told them what happen with me and that i need help. with me is that i need to talk and sort it out so then i understand about what i feel. i hope you feel better soon.

I understand how hard it can be to talk to your parents. No one can know if that's a good idea or not but you. If you think they are against it or will possibly react badly I understand why you are keeping it to yourself. If you are worried just how they might view you then know there is nothing to be ashamed about. Maybe your anxiety is temporary because of things going on, or maybe it will be there with you for a long time, either way getting help is a great thing as long as you think it's safe for you to do so.
Other alternatives are talking to listeners on here, there is also an anxiety path track (if you pay 11 dollars a month) you can cancel at any time, and a guide for anxiety that you can use for free! https://www.7cups.com/anxiety-help/
Doing some of the mindfulness exercises can also help https://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness/?showlist=1
The first two are for anxiety :)
You might also be able to find a free over the phone counselor. If all else fails you can call the crisis hotline and tell them your needs and limitations and they may be able to help you. Good luck!

I learn from you.
Are there any support groups in your area?
while its better to get a therapist, sometimes just taking about your problems in a group can be helpful too.
There are different groups like AA, ala non (for people with alcoholic loved ones), groups for people with depression or anxiety, etc etc.

UPDATE, for all the lovely people who gave support and responded:
I am going to therapy, or at least am in the process of going. I have to go to a doctor first, then they need to refer me! But I am in the process ❤️
That
