Slightly conquered a fear today!
I'm terrified of heights! We live on a sailboat. I needed to go halfway up the mast today. I did it! I suffer from GAD! To overcome even this small step was huge! The rest of the day is a reward for doing this! Curl up with the cat, have a glass of wine, and read my book! Wishing each of you a small conquest today!
@BradleyK That is amazing! It is such an amazing accomplishment starting to conquer your fears <3. I am proud of you for being able to do this. Going on a sailboat sounds like an amazing experience too.
@Karrot Thank you! It turned out glass of wine, nap with husband and cat. A very nice reward. I hope whatever brought you to 7cup you are finding peace with.
@BradleyK Glad to hear that it was great. I am a listener and mentor here <3
@Karrot Thank you! Yes, being on a sailboat can be quite fun sometimes and others a lot of work. The sea is a very harsh environment. We are actually in Mexico in the Sea of Cortez. Right now we are getting our Lady ready to launch for a six week jaunt, before returning to the US for the summer.
I just finished my therapy session. Some days it's rough, others I feel refreshed. Today is a refreshed day. I had a breakdown 5 months ago and have been working through a lot. Defining what part of it is my DNA and what part is my past. I've had panic attacks almost every week since then. They are getting shorter in duration, and less frequent, but it's taken quite a bit of work on my side and a lot of patience from my husband. Oh, of course a lot of cuddling with my cat. LOL!
Hope you are well. From those of us on the Anxiety side, we appreciate all the listeners do. Thank you!
@BradleyK
Congratulations! What you did was a huge accomplishment. I hope heights is a little less scary for you now.
@BradleyK
I would jave traded places with you just to be on a high mast at sea...
@beyondrepairs We're not quite on the "high seas" yet. We're in a dry storage yard getting the boat ready to launch this week, but it can be quite thrilling. Sometimes to much! LOL! Thank you for the support!
@BradleyK
At least you are doing smth to live your dream...🤗😊 I shall wait for stories when you set off on high open seas..
@beyondrepairs Unfortunately, our time is short here. We'll be in the Sea of Cortez until the first part of April and then back to the US. I'm looking forward to being in isolated bays and away from city lights. It's amazing how many stars one can see when there is no ambient lights from towns or cities.
@BradleyK
That is sooo true, watching the miriad of stars lying back on the warm wooden deck...
Corto Maltese...
I honestly envy you sooo much...
@BradleyK
Nicely done! I know TONS of people who have height fears - me included! Any time you can push past it is always a great accomplishment.
@thoughtfulmomma Thank you my friend! I hope things at your end of the world are going great and peaceful. We're getting closer to launching our boat. I'm so excited. It's a lot right now. I only weigh 130 lbs, so I was elected to go up the mast. I was forty feet off the ground dangling in a climbing harness. Some strange reason, no anxiety about it at all. That's the strange part.
Congrats!!!! This is great news
Thank you all! You have no idea how much everyone's support on here means to me! Such an amazing community!
@BradleyK That's amazing! Congratulations. Such a great step forward. I'm very glad you accomplished it!
Tooks steps to conquering another fear. I have issues with large crowded public spaces. The fabric store in Mexico is one of the hardest places for me to go. Sounds weird, but it's always super crowded and the fabric are on 6 foot rolls stacked vertically, so it's kind of a maze and it has very low ceilings. It's also the custom here to wait in line for the person who cuts your fabric, then take a ticket to the cashier (who is behind glass like a bank teller) and then over to the pick up area. To get 9 meters of fabric it was over 40 minute wait. I did it! I do go early, just after opening, but it still took a while to get to the front of the first line. I feel deflated right now, but the positive side was the price of the fabric. I paid for 9 meters what I would have paid for two yards in the US. Just in case anyone is curious, I'm making a sail cover and starting a new quilt. LOL! My therapist suggested I try doing one of my hobbies. So, back to quilting it is! LOL!
