Random anxiety

honestSkies0905 December 12th, 2019

Sometimes I get anxious when I'm just watching tv or doing homework. It's sometimes just random, and I try to stop being anxious it just gets worse to the point to where I just want to cry for no apparent reason. I hate this feeling.

I hate that anxiety that pops up for no apparent reason. When there's a reason for feeling bad, things at least make some sense. But when you're just going along and BAM - that sucks. It happens to me, too, and I just get so frustrated. It's one of the things I'm working on.

My stomach starts to hurt after awhile of trying to not be anxious. I absolutely dislike the feeling. I try to distract myself but it's a hit or miss when it works and when it doesnt.

Distracting yourself only works to a point. And it takes practice. What I've started doing instead is meeting the anxiety head on. So, let's say I'm sitting here and feeling okay, doing whatever, and all of a sudden I get hit with anxiety. Rather than run from it, I jump right into and and try to understand what is going on.

Rather than being emotional about it (and I am EXTREMELY emotional), I try to become analytical. I ask questions - what was I thinking about when it happened? Or what was I doing? And why do I think that those actions or thoughts triggered my anxiety? And how is this anxiety making my body feel right now? And then I do something (maybe just a few deep breaths) to lessen those feelings. Maybe stretch if my body is tense.

I think it's like getting a credit card bill in the mail. You can leave it there on the table, cover it with other mail, but that bill is still there. If you open it right up and see how much it is, that fear about it starts going away because you're taking the action - you're not letting it intimidate you. Then start working to resolve how you're going to pay it, and it isn't as terrible as when it was sitting there on the table, unknown and unopened.
