I can't stop doubting myself and my decisions
I'm 17 and I am a singer. I've been working with music for a few years now and I've been making a big difference lately. I am getting the credit for my hard work however my mother thinks I'm going down a bad path because music is my main priority. I hardly ever speak to my father since he used to abuse me when I was a child but his voice just won't leave my head. Every single decision I make is based on what I think he would think. I'm working hard and I'm doing a good job, it's just so hard for me to feel good about it.
@jesus88 First congratulation on your recent achievement in music and keep up the good work. Sometimes self-reflection is a good thing and it keeps our arrogance in check, but overthinking is definitely not a good thing. You are still young and your parents definitely will still pose a great influence on you, and the good thing is you have made the first step in your music career and that's something you need to give yourself credit for. Then, you need to carefully think about your future and if music could be your future career - and to be successful, you need talent, knowledge and luck. You may have talent in music, but I think it would still be a good idea to go to music school or learn it systematically for the next couple of years, so that you have a solid foundation that will serve you well in the long term, plus you may meet with like-minded musicians whom you could work with. Or just to be safe, you could consider going to a four-year college and minoring in music while majoring in another area that you have an interest in. Your future is bright! Do not let others, even your parents, ruin it.
@jesus88 Congratulations on your achievements! You are doing what you love and excelling in it but having difficulty in feeling good about it. Talking about it in detail can help you release your stress about it. Listeners are available here on 7cups. You can also reach out to like minded people like such as other musicians and people from the music industry. Parents are always a huge part of our influence in life. Talking about your anxiety with your mother can be difficult but it can be liberating for you as she might come around to support you more. If you do need professional help, you can find resources here on 7cups.
