Frustrated
So I've been taking medication for my anxiety/depression and I recently stopped. Hubby was getting mad because I literally could not concentrate or think or hold a conversation with him. In short, I got stupid. He looked up all my meds and the one common side effect they all had was the lack of ability to concentrate. So I stopped two of them. And my dr is just the family dr but now he wants me to go see a psychiatrist. I just want to stay off all the meds and be myself again. The woman he fell in love with. I was in therapy, but had to stop because I couldn't afford it during the holiday season (our business slows WAY down during holidays). So I'm just at a loss. IDK whether to listen to my dr or just try to get back in with my therapist and overcome the anxiety and depression. Anyone had any experiences with a psychiatrist that they would be willing to share with me to help me decide what to do?
My limited experience of psychiatrists (in the UK) is that they are expensive and they tend to rely on medication a lot. So if your plan is to get the right medication, a psychiatrist would be the right person, but if your plan is to complete your therapy, a psychiatrist might not be much use to you.
When you say you "stopped two of them" it makes it sound like you were on at least three drugs at the same time, which seems surprising for anxiety and depression (although I'm no expert). If you feel your therapist understands your difficulties and has a treatment plan to help you overcome them, then completing your therapy sounds like a good idea.
