Feeling alone and hopeless

sunshine250 February 5th, 2020

I have never really had anxiety or anything that challenged me mentally up until this year. I am starting a new school and with that has come, friend drama, pressure for good grades, the pressure to be a great athlete, and pressure from my family. I feel stuck because I don't know what to do and sometimes I just feel hopeless, stressed and extremely anxious. My family and friends have never experienced this so whenever I try to talk to them about it they try to understand but just done. I feel alone and like everything is going downhill. I wish I knew other people who have felt this way so I don't feel like im so alone. If you do feel like this, we can talk! id love to do that with someone!

I relate to this 100% (other than the new school thing, I suppose that would make it slightly below 100%, but that's besides the point) are you my secret twin?

I've found that with anxiety, you build up a scenario in your head to be 10X worse than it actually is. My advice is take it slow, take deep breaths, and focus on one problem at a time. Why is it scaring you? after you figure that out, figure out the worst possible senario and the things you can do to fix it. Ex: Doesn't do homework--> Gets a zero/parents upset with you --> talk to your teacher about handing it in late. Then continue on a positive route from there. Hands in homework late--> grade is no longer a 0 --> parents/you are happier--> less stress. Anxiety is all about the "what ifs" so if you can steer the "what ifs" in a positive direction then it becomes less intense. I hope this is helpful!

Hello and Welcome! I want you to know that you are NOT alone. You've found us all here at 7cups - so you've got...hundreds of supporters!

School anywhere is always going to be an anxious time. And even though no one around may be talking about it, there are so many other students that are feeling exactly like you feel. I wish every school had a "stress club" that people could join, talk about what's going on and help each other out.

Like others have already said, you aren't alone. You've found a supportive community here to listen to what you are going through.

I struggle with my anxiety spiking sometimes too. It's hard, even in situations you are familiar with. New things will add pressure, try not to be too hard on yourself. Sometimes the end of the day is the best bit of it. That's ok, there's always tomorrow.
