Been afraid of throw up since I was 8 there was one point in my life I wouldn’t even say the word. Just curious is anyone here can relate. It’s hard talking to people about it when they don’t understand how my brain works

@narwhalsoup me too but never knew it had a name.

Even reading about it and recalling made me recoil. Never actually addressed this or mentioned it in therapy now that I think of it.

Ps I love narwhals :) but not their soup 🤔

I have the exact same, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this fear!

I can completely relate—I've had a fear of throwing up since I was young too. For the longest time, I couldn’t even say the word without panicking. What helped me was finding people who truly understood or even joining online communities where others had the same fears. It made me feel less alone and more accepted. It's tough when others don’t get it, but know that you're not the only one going through this, and it helps to connect with those who do understand.

It sounds like you have an intense fear of throwing up; that can be a real challenge and I think you’re brave for posting about it.  Believe it or not, more people than you realize have the same challenge and your post can be empowering to others. When I was a teen, I was also diagnosed with emetophobia after a bad bout with a stomach bug.  I understand how it can cause anxiety levels to rise and hope things get better for you.  I would like to share that for me, things improved as I got older.  I’ve been a nurse for almost 20 years and deal with vomit all the time now. I always say it was the ultimate exposure therapy!  As a teen, I never could have imagined I would be doing this kind of work. There is hope, and I wish the same success for you as well. You are not alone!
