Does anybody ever just feel randomly sad?

LotusFlower92 February 21st, 2017

I'm a listener here and I'm used to listening to everyone else's stories and providing support, but does anyone else experience sadness randomly? I am on Zoloft and have been since 2013, and lately I've been feeling more anxious. I even just tried meditating, but I'm exhausted. Unfortunately everything seems like a burden. I can't find myself to WANT to do anything. I'm thinking it's stress catching up to me which is why I'm exhausted and just in a blah mood. But random sadness is horrible.

@LotusFlower92. Yes I get that way a lot too, I am on an antidepressant , but still sometimes sadness sneaks up on me and takes sometimes days or weeks to get rid, I am sorry that you experience it, it is really tough to try to feel better.

@jr50 thanks for responding! I actually just got back from the gym and I'm feeling a lot better. I feel like exercise is something I need on a daily basis to regulate my mood. I've got OCD and something as simple as skipping a work out can really bother me. Also, I take on a lot and need time for self care. I hope you feel better!

@LotusFlower92. I am glad your work out helped! I sometimes just need to get outside for fresh air and that helps some! Hope the rest of your week goes well!

@LotusFlower92 I definitely get that. I was having a really good day today actually, and then out of nowhere it just kind of hit me. I dont have any tips or anything for preventing it, as it's pretty unpredictable, but when it does happen it usually helps to find somewhere to be alone and work on something. Letting your brain be quiet and having the satisfaction of creating or accomplishing something is usually helpful for me.

@Livinlikelarry ah, that's horrible! I can relate. It's odd how it happens but I truly believe it has to do with a variety of factors: our stress levels, environment, who we are surrounded by, our mindset, etc etc. I like to look at the entire picture. When that random sadness hits though, it feels horrible! Thanks for your suggestion. :-)

I get that too. I'll have a great day or two and then for no obvious reason I just can't get myself into the next day. Everything feels heavy. Last night was like that. It usually passes after another day or so. If I have a work project to focus on, then that always helps.

I have always been this way. There are days when anxiety kicks in out of the blue and makes me sad. Like one day I am happy and optimistic, and the day after that I feel like a part of me is lost and I am looking for something I can never find. But I deal with it through various methods or just accepting the current mood.. because it isn't possible to be happy all the time. Its okay to be sad sometimes. :)

Everyone does, we just have to fight it

Absolutely. I can be hanging out with my friends, being happy, laughing and having a good time and then all of a sudden it's like something just clicks in my brain and I immediately feel sad or depressed again for no reason. It sucks.
