I don't think I have a fear of dying, more of being stuck up there in the darkness, for all eternity, never living, or feeling again, and it scares me so much. If I think about it, I get all panicky, so I have to refuse to think about it. But it also scares me that I don't know exactly what it is up there, and that I can't escape it. I'm crying now, from thinking about it, and I'm finding it hard to breathe. I find it hard to comprehend Heaven and Hell, and I don't know if it's even a normal fear. I'm sick of it.

I've just found out that this is called apierophobia? It makes me feel a bit better that other people have this, but apparently a fear of infinity is not very common so not a lot of people have it. (Fear of infinity as in after death, not like a sideways eight.)

I too have a similar fear and I was nearly psychotic for a week, due to that fear. I still get panic attacks, when I think about it deeply. Thank you for letting me know the term that describes this phobia.

I have the same phobia, but I also do have a fear of dying. It just drives me crazy

Beeimp August 17th, 2015

I have this fear too. Ever since I was young I would think about it at night and would have to spin in circles until I was too dizzy to remember what I was panicking about. I've had a few attacks throughout the years and have been trying to get help but wanted to start out with an online support group instead. It usually hits me at night when I'm in bed but the other day I was listening to an audiobook it triggered an attack while I was driving. It was late and I was pulling into my neighborhood. I was freaking out and screaming. I don't want it to happen again so that's why I have been searching online for someone to talk to. Let's keep in touch?

I have a severe fear of dying, partly because I know its inevitable and I can't change that and because I don't know if I believe in an afterlife or an eternity of non existence which is 100x worse. I haven't been diagnosed with anything since I haven't been to a doctor about my mental health about anything, so I don't know if I have ocd but like I normally will repeatedly do actions for ease of mind that something bad won't happen that day (is that ocd? Idk). But since I've realised that we're all gonna pass away that feels useless now. I can't sleep at night for fear of dying in my sleep, and I don't want to leave the house for fear of dying in an accident. I have such a huge fear of my family dying even though I know it will happen and they've told me they aren't scared to, although my sister is but she puts off thinking about it. I should be at university doing my degree but I hate being away from my mum who I know I am going to lose some day. Just please tell me it gets better with time because I really don't want to waste my life worrying and enjoy it instead

That is not bad, we each have things that scare us and that don't but, that doesn't mean it is bad.It is perfectly Normal and for you to state is here is pretty difficult so I respect you!Props :).

Willendorf2017 November 8th, 2017

@ohdontworry You should not have assumed that everyone will know what "nyctophobia" is. I don't! I could look it up, but shouldn't have to.

I understand how scary it can be thinking about it, but growing up is apart of living. It is a roller coaster of memories and emotions but we all don't know what the future holds.Im sure it will be great though :).I know how hard it is to say your fear or phobia so congratulations, Im proud of you!

I second that. I do not drive at night unless it’s an emergency. I avoid it so much, my friends know if it’s starting to get dark, they need to get it extra sheets pillows and blankets ready because I’m spending the night and I’ll drive home in the morning

I'm afraid of being too physically close to people. Like clostraphobia just with people. I get very uncomfortable if people are standing too close to me or if someone hugs me for too long or really touches me unnecessarily in any way. Is there a word for that?

It may be a form of touch aversion, which is a very broad term.

Some quickGoogling also brings up the term 'haphephobia' whichseems to be more about personal space and a fear of contamination or invasion of that space.

There is alsotouch aversion based on sensory processing issues, where being touched feelslike too much sensory stimuli that can result in sensory overload. I have this one. It'swhy I cannot be around people because being touched can actually feel almost painful.I just feel it too much.

For me, close proximity of other peoplealso means much more sensory stimuli (not just touch but with the sounds they make and the 'brightness' of the colours and movements of their person) which can cause anxiety. I cannot stand to be in a room with more than a few people without a level of discomfort and stress.

While I was only able to describe touch aversion (and a sensory sensitivity-based one at that), maybe that andhaphephobia are two terms that could help you understand your fear.
