Urgent Care

Ardi7 November 15th, 2023

My anxiety has gotten so bad that it’s causing physical problems. For the past two weeks my stomach has been hurting and it keeps getting worse. Today it got so bad that I’ve left work and gone to urgent care. I’m currently in the waiting room as I’m typing. I’m scared they’re going to tell me I’m being ridiculous or that it’s “just anxiety”. I hate hospitals, but my stomach has become unbearable.

Update: Urgent Care sent me to the Emergency Room for scans. I’m currently waiting on blood work and hating that I went to the hospital in the first place.

Hey Ardi, I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened. Obviously it's not good that you're having these physical symptoms, but I am glad you were able to go to urgent care for them. Anxiety disorders can have an impact on the physical body, especially if you have high levels of the hormone cortisol (though you might have known that already - sorry if I'm just rehashing things you're already aware of 😅). If they sent you to the emergency room, that means something might be going on, you were right to go to the hospital and it isn't "all in your head". I'm proud of you for going to urgent care. You did the right thing. Sending my best wishes that this will all be sorted out and that you will be able to recover from this pain soon. 💖

Final update: Got bloodwork and a CT scan and nothing turned up. It makes me feel like I’m going crazy.

@Ardi7 Glad that the scans and bloodwork turned up clear for you. You're not going crazy at all. Our brains are so powerful and can turn anxiety into real physical pain. Focus on what you can control and find what works for you to help lower or avoid things that trigger your anxiety. I know for me music helps and I've recently started medication which has also helped. My sister had a service dog to help with her anxiety attacks. Each one of us is different and there are so many resources you can explore to discover what's best for you. Feel free to browse the resources on 7 cups and elsewhere on the internet. Hi! I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Me too i have stomach pain due to anxiety.  My anxiety used to be manageable but this year it went out of control! And brought a bunch of ugly somatic symptoms such as stomach ache, migraine and just random pains throughout my body. Anxiety can really mess up with your health 😕

I really hope it will get better for you❤

Sending you virtual hugs!!
