Things to help me stay present! Accomplished!

staticfoil 2 days ago

I found out that grounding is helping me with my ADHD as well . . . it helps me stay present with my Square breathings, somatic tapping my collar bone, how I feel the vibration or thump go through me. Counting with each one, varying the strength of it . . . it helps ground me and helps me in the middle of a task . . . .

Really wish I had realized that earlier while doing a rush last minute assignment earlier! lol

But also, I can make drinking water a mindfulness practice. Steady, not rushed, at eased drinkings in short sips.

I  . . .hope these help everyone. I'm still unmedicated, still learning and getting books to help me 'therapy' myself. One thing I'm starting to understand is it's going to be a process . . .but each step is a process  in victory. ;w;

@staticfoil

Hi staticfoil, welcome to our ADHD community! Thanks for sharing your mindfulness tips, I read time and time again how useful these types of practices are. Would you mind going into more detail about what square breathing and somatic collar bone tapping are and how to do it? I have never heard about either of these. I am going the unmedicated route as well.

There is a website I use for holistic tips its called https://www.drugfreeadhd.org/

Joeseph Pack is a ADHD coach and if you sign up for his newsletter you can receive all sorts of good quality info and he does not email constantly which is nice too.

Square breathing is  thankfully simple. It's
1. Breath in 4 counts
2. Hold   in 4 counts
3.Exhale    4  counts
4. Hold  in 4 counts.

IT helps the body realize "Ah, we're good? No panic breathing? Okay. This is exhausting . . .I'm tired. I'm gonna chill now." lol You can increase the inhal or hold or  exhale and there are different varieties, but this is the basic one.

As tapping? It's somantic that helps the body . . .  I . . . need to remember what all it does, but it helped me a lot when my depression and anxiety were super huge (toxic enivorment that I couldn't escape sadly for a long time made me had to learn a lot of coping mechanisms)
