Why don't I work

artisticCoconut81194 November 25th, 2021

Hey everyone, my name is Coco and I have Adhd.

I've had symptoms ever since I was little but since I did great in school, no one really paid attention to it. I was just a kid in their own world. Nothing to worry about

But right now, I can't. I just can't. I can't sit still. I can't listen to the teacher. I never could, but I never needed to, cause I was smart, but now , my intelligence alone won't take me further without me doing anything.

I don't know what to do. I can't study. I don't work. I don't know how to describe it. I'm just scattered, I don't know how I should do, what I should do, or even what I am doing.

I always assumed it was the same for everyone and that I just attention-seeking. Now I wonder if I'm the only one who feels that way.

Hey there Coco! thank you so much for sharing first of all. It takes courage to be vulnerable.

Like yourself, I have ADHD, and honestly I've been the same too: you need to have symptoms from a young age because ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition (you're born with it). I performed well academically, but it definitely got more challenging with high school, and university was next level (I first got diagnosed at university).

Please remember you're not alone! I understand where you're coming from, but hard work can make a difference too. That's what really matters, and intelligence is a pretty complicated notion anyways 😊 I can understand this is very difficult for you right now. Have you reached out for support? With the right support, you can learn how to best work with yourself and thrive!

You are not attention seeking, and I'm sure many of us fellow ADHDers can relate to what you're saying about struggling to study, feeling scattered, etc.

Take care and hang in there! we're all here for you.

Welcome to Support Plus, Coco! We are so glad to have you!

I too have ADHD. I first started having symptoms when I was seven but I was diagnosed with ASD at the time and then ADHD during high school which explained a lot for me. It can be hard sometimes when younger as most kids are off doing their own things. I've always been a student who gets good grades. I could sit for hours hype focused on my work. When I got to university it quickly changed though. There isn't a day where I don't have to tap my foot constantly on the floor while doing my work to stay focused. My professor can say something and five minutes later I can't recall what was said. You are not the only one who feels that way. You aren't attention-seeking. While everyone has different experiences with ADHD there are others besides you and I who experience this. It can be hard to focus on one thing sometimes. Have you talked to your doctor who diagnosed you with ADHD about this? They may be able to provide you some ways of coping and managing your ADHD.

Hello, it's me again. In all honesty, I didn't really expect anyone to react to my thread, but wow, thank you so much ❀️

I'm awaiting the official results if my diagnosis, so school will soon know.

It's so nice if you to have reached out to me, I don't feel so alone 😊

I'm trying different methods to organize myself, and it's currently working, I haven't missed a single deadline. Though, it's still hard to study.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and wish you both a lot of Luck for your studies 😁✨
