I binge watch YouTube day till night and sometimes 3 days straight

determinedCoconut4836 January 18th, 2021

I struggle with YouTube addiction. It helps me procrastinate from monsters (the things that I need to get done but really dread doing). I could get hyped up and all motivated to start doing work but then I find doing the action very hard. Whenever I face difficulties with the task, I want to go back into bed and grab my phone to watch YouTube.

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with an addiction to youtube - I can completely understand this feeling as i spend my day watching it at the same time as doing daily tasks! It can be difficult to keep that motivation when the monsters come loud and strong. Have you ever tried to do the task you want - do some cooking for example but have the comfort of youtube playing in the background? Thts what i personally have found benificial! Or is there something else you feel may help you regain motivation?

No matter what dont feel bad for your struggles and that your way of coping is therough watching youtube - Its a long journey when we go through struggles! Stay strong and keep fighting!

I think a walk outside helps. Usually in my down time I find it hard to bring myself to go outside although I know that it will help me feel better.

Understand ๐Ÿ’™ it can be very addictive as a distraction

What automatic thought/s that usually cross your mind when you encounter a difficult task that follows up with feeling unmotivated to continue it?

The thoughts are that I will probably not make it or that I will just end up making a mess of everything and end up still with an incomplete task for submission.

Hey, i can relate. I came to 7cups to find a support group, where I could reaffirm daily that I want to get rid of this youtube addiction, similar to what they do with alcohol addictions..

Would anybody else be interested or know of such a support group already?

I don't know of any. Humm how can we create one? I was looking at the thread on resources for addiction and subthread: understanding addiction. There is some journal reflection guide which can help you understand your addiction motivation better. I'm thinking of trying that. Also there are also some resources about relapse and how to try to avoid them.

Oh I completely understand. I have the same problem as well as playing a particular game. What did you do? Or if anyone care to share what they did to help this problem?

I'm still stuggling with it and have some relapse. What help is that I tried to get out of bed by setting a timer for 5 min. That before the timer rings, I would have gotten myself out of bed and stopped with Youtube. Also, it helps to do easy activities like cleaning the house; vacuuming, washing the dishes as it is often an easy win as it usually don't take a lot of time and the environment become nicer and it makes me proud of my accomplishments.

Hello Have you tried other things that will motivate you? Do you think you give up on the task to quick?

I think listening to music might be helpful and having an agenda for the day. Yes, at times it's even harder to start working on it. When I'm doing a task, I often takes too long to complete and it makes me feel like I would never finish it in time.
