One Step a Day

InternalAcceptance July 6th, 2018

I've found that recognizing one step a day that I've done that was healthy towards recovery has been really beneficial. It helps me not focus on the negative as much and is something that I can do, no matter where I am in my recovery, whether that be wanting to get clean or having been so for a little while. I thought maybe sharing the idea might help! Hopefully this can be an ongoing thread for daily posting. :)

One step that I took today was to call and make an appointment with my psychiatrist in order to let her know how things have been going, rather than continuing to isolate and put it off. Now that I've made my appointment, I feel relieved rather than quite as anxious as I had before calling.

@InternalAcceptance That sounds like a great idea for a thread, and I'm glad you were able to make that call. Good for you! smiley

@InternalAcceptance I'm really struggling right now, but one positive step I've made today is reading a chapter from my Harm Reduction book.

@InternalAcceptance My step for today was: I attended a live, online harm reduction meeting for alcohol.

A step that I took today was that I let my boyfriend know a little bit more how bad my cravings have been the past few months.

I did some research, and found a SMART Recovery meeting that takes place in the city I live in. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'm considering going to it on Thursday and trying it out.

Today I looked into what I need to do for a civil restraining order so that I can work towards having someone leave me alone. The stress from feeling like I need to keep running away and hiding hasn't been helping my cravings so working towards making sure they have to back off or face legal represcussions is really beneficial.

@InternalAcceptance Good for you. yes That does sound really stressful! I'm so glad to hear that you are pro-actively doing what you need to do to take care of you. I'm so proud of you for taking that step.

I come from a family where we keep our personal struggles to ourselves and chose to reach out to a relative that I'm fairly close to anyway.

@InternalAcceptance Good for you! I find it hard to reach out to my family too, but sometimes it can help when we do. I hope it went well for you. hugs
