A Note on Discussions & Events in Support Rooms

Hey everyone!

Iwanted to talk a littleabout support sessions, discussions and other chat room events here on 7 Cups.

What are they and who leads them?
Our regular support sessions are an opportunity for you to share and support one another in a structured way. Moderators will add questions and guide the discussion, ensuring everyone is included. If you are normally quite shy in the chat rooms, these are a great way to get to know other guests and members a little better, to share and learn from one another and to find out how others have managed to cope with similar struggles.

Additionally, we sometimes have book club meetings, games nights or movie nights. Again, these are opportunities for guests and members to connect and have a good time together! The intention is to have fun.

Discussions and events are organised by moderators and last for no more than 1 hour. You can check the calendar here to find out what?s on and when!

Why have discussions & events?
All discussions and events are created with the same goals in mind - to create more opportunities for you all to connect with one another and to bring variety and interest to the chat rooms. We want everyone to enjoy their time in the rooms.

Meeting Needs
Some of you like the chat rooms just as they are - it works for you! Perhaps you alreadyrecognise a few familiar faces and have built relationships with people. You?re comfortable chatting and expressing yourself without help from moderators or listeners, and you?re able to support and welcome others as they need it.

Some of you prefer the chat rooms when there is a moderator actively working to guide the conversation and asking questions to draw you in. You like the buzz of a good discussion and how it gets you thinking and reflecting. You enjoy sharing and hearing from others and feel safe and secure in the moderators presence.

Both of these (and everything in between) are absolutely fine. We want to cater for everyone!

With that said, we hope you will come along and join in these discussions and support sessions. We?d love to see you there and you?ll be very welcome!

Not a discussion fan?
That's okay! If you do not wish to participate, we ask that you be respectful of discussion leaders and participants and allow them space to hold their discussion. You might like to sit back and watch the discussion without joining in, or you might prefer to check out another support room! As always, you can also connect 1-1 with a listener during this time.

As I already mentioned, these last for no more than 1 hour. It will never be too long until the end of a discussion, at which time you can go back to chatting as you were before. Let?s all continue working together to ensure these rooms can be a wonderful place for everyone.

Thank you for understanding!

I'm interested in attending some of the support sessions but am a bit confused as to how to access them. For example, a number of them are listed as taking place in the "Events Room." Maybe it's just me, but I haven't been able to locate this room on the 7cups site. Also, where are the "Ice Breaker" events held? I've not seen any information on the calendar on how to access those.

Thanks to anyone who can clear these matters up for me.

@quietThomas I too am having this problem! Where is the Events Room! Wherever it is, it is NOT clearly labeled as such.

@quietThomas

This is a bit late, but I will still respond to clarify for others :) When an event is held, the events room is opened. Normally it is not there, but it appears when a discussion is held in the room. This also applies to many other rooms :)

I don't know how to find the support groups that are listed in the calendar. I was looking for the Adult Bipolar Support Group last night and couldn't find it. Right now I'm looking for the Positivity Support Room. I think I'm going to miss it :/
