Forum Guidelines Expanded: 10. Spam

This post is a part of our series on expanded forum guidelines to help all users better understand the purpose of each guideline and for forum moderators to understand appropriate behavior and review examples of this rule in action.

My post was edited/deleted for spam content. What does that mean?

Spam (posting multiple times, mass-tagging, posting about non 7 cups related topics such as surveys or for advertising purposes, making posts that are largely unreadable, etc.) is not allowed.

Purpose of rule: to maintain cleanliness and usability in the forums. The purpose of this rule is to keep the forums organized and accessible for users.

Examples: I'm collecting responses for a study at school! Take it here[link to survey] buy superproductMAX here [link to product] watch Super Popular Newly Released Movie/Show here[link to viewing platform]

Explanation: Spam takes away from support, including individual's ability to seek or give support and build community.

Appropriate Action: If at all possible, the forum moderator should remove the offending content while retaining the post. All edits should include the forum moderator's name and the reason for editing (e.g. spam content). In the event that the post cannot be retained, the forum moderator will delete the whole post. If you believe a forum moderator has edited or deleted your post in error, you can email forum@7cups.com and we will investigate.

Clarifications:

- Posting links to surveys for class projects, etc.

While it is natural to want to reach out to a broad community to get feedback for class surveys, etc., posting surveys unrelated to 7 Cups is not allowed. These are not relevant to 7 Cups (whereas asking questions in the forums that might be related to a topic are) and are considered spam. Separately, when posting anything that links elsewhere, it is important to be cognizant of what information it shares (e.g., a youtube link that connects to your personal contact info, etc.)

- What to do if you are caught in the "spam filter"

While we are working to refine this, we do have a spam filter in place meant to catch spammers that sometimes catches real users, too! If you think you have been caught you can submit a support ticket or email support@7cups.com or contact a forum ambassador to look into it for you.
